I think if you experience massive tank venting when you open the filler and the engine bay smells like gas then it’s time for the VC120. It’s crappy because it feels so cheap compared to the Toyota ones. I felt the same way about hissing tanks until mine scared the s*** out of me at 7,000’ on a hot summer day. Prior to that I was used to hearing the hissing and found it common place and always present when I filled up. Now there is no hiss at all with the new unit.

I R2’d the old canister with the unit I just refurbished. I’m going to run it for a while and see what happens. Maybe my original one was intermittently failing. I only smelled fuel once or twice and the light hissing of the gas cap was just that; light hissing.

We will see how it goes, I don’t have much info on the canister I received from the mudder, but they’re so simple I’m not worried. If all hell breaks loose and I blow a tank then I’ll part out the cruiser, sell my 97 and buy a Land Rover 🙀

How exciting! The new defender is almost as cute as the new bronco.🤮

How long do fuel pumps last? I have zero indication that I need to replace my OG fuel pump but I almost want to just grab one since I’ll be in there. They’re what, $220 or something? I don’t want to if I don’t have to but I will if you guys agree it’s prudent to do so. Thoughts?

More than likely not needed, but looking at the hole you're about to enter given the part numbers on the table, I personally probably would. I replace all kinds of unnecessary s*** all the time though :meh:

I don't wanna know what dealer hardware costs or why you guys are so obsessed with it.

Do you have all the parts? Denso pumps are way cheaper and have been recommended by @OGBeno elsewhere. Looks like ~&120 for the pump and some of the fittings, but not the bracket. No idea on that one.

I’m the same way, I likely don’t need any of the s*** in the photo but I like buying Mr. T’s wares. Those fuel pumps are pretty damn tough but I kinda want a new one so I can further ease my untroubled mind.

It’s cheap bro. I either go to PartSouq or Wholesale Toyota. You’re looking at about $125 worth of stuff right there. Oh, and it’s MADE IN JAPAN, not China.

I have everything except the fuel pump. What bracket are you talking about? If Denso is the official OE part then I’m okay with buying it. I just want it to be as tough as the original and made in Japan as much as I can help it. I’ll pay more for that stamp.

The quality hardware at Fastenal isn't Chinese and it's down the street from my house.

I also have a massive bolt bin.

How many many miles on your 80? The original Aisin pumps have proven bullet proof. However, when I dropped my tank a couple years ago as part of my on going PM plans to ensure reliability I went ahead and replaced the pump with another Aisin that I got for $100 from CruiserParts.com several years ago and carried as a spare. Now I feel warm and fuzzy with confidence it won’t be my fuel pump that leaves me stranded. The OG pump is now my back up.

You probably want to replace the filler hose and the smaller hose right next to it. Mine were hard as a rock.

My rig was at near 300k miles when I did this work.

Oh, that’s a banjo bolt.

Steve, my rig has 203k now and runs very well. What filler hose are you referring to? I thought I grabbed all the consumables that are still available but maybe I missed some

In envy your parts horde Pell!

2320666010 fuel pump bracket not available at PS but still can be had elsewhere. It apparently contains the electrical connectors. Requires a gasket too. If you have all the loot on that table except the pump then it’s the big metal thing on the box I think….

Hose, fuel #1 77213-60090

Hose, fuel #2 95311-13022

These two short hoses bridge the fuel filler pipes to the rear of the tank.

Is this bracket a consumable? I didn’t think it needed to be R2 but what are other’s thoughts?

Thanks for the part numbers. I definitely don’t have those. I’ll get them on order soon
