Hahahaha it’s thread inception

no updates @mudgudgeon ? Still waiting on parts?

Yeah, kind of. Work is getting in the way at the moment. Plus getting set up in the new place.

Still need to order a couple of things. Can't just walk into a store and grab stuff at the moment either because of lockdowns. And parcel delivery is slow at the moment too.

finally got a bit of breathing space at work

I've been trying to find bearings for main bearings and conrods.

Looking for ACL or Taiho. Keep drawing a blank on either.

@Snowy105 @AussieHJCruza Any leads on suppliers of bearings? or another OEM equivalent brand to look at?

Yep, I make the mains to be 11702-66030 and conrod to be 13202-66030. There's a few sets in Oz.

I've just been getting Taiho ones through Partsouq. I got my taiho standard big end ones through ebay at first when I didn't think I was pulling the engine out.

I found out today that I somehow ordered the wrong set of main bearings (US025) even though my order said standard bearing set. Lucky I checked with plastiguage cause I had less than 0.025mm of clearance. So now to wait for my next $100+ set of bearings to arrive

Make sure you look really hard for the numbers stamped on the block and new crankshaft like the manual says, then try and find the numbers on the old bearings that you took out. old bearings maybe not so important, cause you aren't using your old crankshaft though. Then measure everything twice and refer to the manual's specs for journal sizes etc and what bearing number to use.
Double check everything, cause I just assumed when the machine shop said my crank was within spec I could just get a set of standard bearings and it would all work just fine. Looking at the manual though there are like 6 sizes of standard bearing and I needed 3 different ones

Dang! Just looked at partsouq for bearings for fzj105, and there's loads of them! Just not sure if they are backwards compatible with 80 series.

Cross reference of parts, looks like maybe not.

Nice! good work 👍
While umming and ahhing over night Partsouq sold out of bearing number 5 that I needed 2 of
Also looking into it further I'm not so sure I've got the right big end bearings either. The ones that came out were stamped as no.4 which matches the crank and connecting rod formula. So I'll have to double check my clearance there as well and maybe get another set if it's wrong.

Yeah, I'm happy my crank, block, and rods were all the same sizes.
One full set of each main and rod bearings made it easy

That is why I always let my machine shop source the bearings. If the crank and bearings don’t mic out, they are responsible for making it right.
Yeah true, I've got the right ones now on order. I just jumped the gun and went a bit nuts ordering stuff before properly confirming what I needed. Totally my fault for not doing enough research and reading ahead in the manual. Rookie error 😄

Having the block surfaced was good but they left the head locating pins out, so I had to order them. They also dunked the block in a tank to clean it so took off the oil cooler which I hadn't planned for either so more gaskets there that I had to order.

Something I learned too from putting in a big order with partsouq (about $1500 AUD) is that I hadn't accounted for import tax of about $380 😏
So I could have avoided that by making a couple of orders under $1000 and I wouldn't have had to pay anything extra.
