I do not have a kit. I am concerned about exhaust clearance on the upper control arm. And possibly the engine oil pan. Thanks.
It's super tight but clears. I can send pics this evening. Be prepared to have a full custom exhaust made though...
 
PSA for those doing a gen V LT swap. Be careful with 2022+ engines.

GM switched to a smaller 6mm stem diameter injector starting in or around 2022 and the E92 ECM won't run them without a full custom tune. (You can, of course, run an E90 instead but that will dictate your harness and transmissions options as well) I've only even had one offer to tune my setup after multiple inquiries with different tuners.

Problem is the older style injectors have 7.5mm stems and won't physically fit into the head.

So...I'm pulling the heads on my L8T with only 2 miles to send them to Katech for injector bore machining.

Speaking of injectors.

Got the LQ4 injectors flow tested locally by a friend. He said two were effectively dead. The other six were great. So looking at replacement options for the two.

Here is what I'm looking at from RockAuto. Any reason not to get one of the highlighted options? If so, any alternative recommendations?

Well, everyone always says to use OEM parts on their Toyota, I see no reason not to do the same for any other make. Don't know how you're doing any tuning on the ECU, but they should match what's already in there with flow rates, etc. For the little bit more $, I would think it's all worth it

Upside of this donor drivetrain: the ECU already has an active HPTuners license from the same friend. Should make deleting VATS and potential cam tuning easier.

The remaining injectors are original. So can confirm the flow rate should match.

Edit: I realized the pic shows parts for a 2005 model instead of 2003 (donor year). Same part numbers, for reference.

I assume the E92 ECM works with the 6 speed, which you wanted to use? E90 ECM only works with the 8 and 10 speeds? I mean, a 10 speed would have been nice...but I am living the 6 speed life..

Yes, it would work with a 6 speed for sure.

I'm actually using a 10L80 but thanks to my desire to have what I thought was an ultimate setup, I bought mix matched parts ahead of time. (Never a great idea on these swaps, but you know how that goes)

Basically, I had already bought a 2018 Tahoe 10 speed that needs a T87a TCM which is only compatible with the E92 ECM.

I researched a ton, talked with Mitch several times, ordered the ECM, TCM, harness with MCM, etc and then found out after the fact that only Global A L8T's (2020-2021ish) have the early 7.5mm injectors. Mine's a 2025.

Unfortunately, this little injector detail isn't that well known from what I can tell so I'm trying to get the info out there.

I plan to start a build thread as soon as I get my 1FZ pulled so I'll be sure to elaborate more on what I've learned there.

I would upgrade the injectors if you are doing a aftermarket cam. I think gen 4 injectors are 42lb instead of 28lb.
 
Also, does anyone have real world experience with the Dakota digital RTX cluster? The threads here seem like dead ends...

I bought one and I'm going to give it a go with the BIM 01-2 module eventually but I may start out using the Earl's oil pressure sensor adapter and ICT Billet coolant temp sensor adapter with stock cluster like others have. I don't want to get too much project scope creep right off the bat.

I would if it was a bigger cam. It's a mild "drop-in" cam to replace the worn out stocker.

Fine tuning for economy, tire size, and keeping the transmission happy is the goal.
I have found it difficult to find a tuner to tune for fuel economy. Seems like most are just interested in getting peak numbers.
 
I don't think it is that hard to tune, assuming you aren't looking for peak HP at Wide Open Throttle.

One needs to rescale the mass airflow table to recalibrate the MAF sensor due to not using a stock intake.

Easier if you can log with a wide-band O2 sensor, otherwise LTFT will give a clue if you are running rich or lean.

Ideally, your LTFT should be close to zero at all RPMs vs MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) if you got it right.

I mean, get it close enough and the ECM will adjust in real time in closed loop to get it spot on.

Getting it close to perfect will allow easier starting in open loop..
 
Yeah, lots of road tuning. I converted a LY6 (gen 4 6.0) to Gen 3 and DBC using a P01 ECU. Changed injectors, Truck Norris cam, long tube headers, etc. Lots of changes so lots of adjustments. I have a wideband on that one and tuned off of that, but have gone back over with the narrow band 02s. I think one of the most critical things is to make sure there are no vacuum leaks. Little changes at a time and let it learn.

On this one (L92 Gen 4 6.2) I'm going to learn how to tune a Gen 4. I'm keeping it stock, so not a lot of changes should be needed but with the new intake (through a snorkel), and exhaust system, it will need some. Just going with the LTFT to do the tuning. Baby steps...

Run the acdelco. It’s a Chevy part. Don’t be dumb with engine stuff

Shoot after having my 4l80 in my LC and my daily being the 6 speed and going back and forth between the 2. I wish I had the 6 speed in my LC. But the 4l80 is a strong trans so I’m not that mad. Lol the little things in life that keeps these builds going haha

nothing is ever truely finished there is always something that can be improved or done a better way.
 
Well, hit sort of a milestone today. Hooked up the battery to the harness for the first time and no magic smoke leaked out. Then, I couldn't connect to the ECU. Finally figured out I didn't have any key on power. Traced it back to having repinned my IH1 connector wrong for where I was picking it up from. Misread the connector diagram and had my wire in 22 instead of 21. Luckily it's so easy to get to (not). Ended up pulling out the evaporator again to get some room. Figure I'll have more of these to work through so, out it stays for now. Feeling pretty good now though, finally downloaded the tune and can start making adjustments for fuel pump, starter, etc.

Now it's down to finishing up the radiator hoses, the power steering cooler lines, get the new condenser in and see how it connects to my drier lines (95 condenser to 91 drier) and a few other items, nothing major, just nit picky stuff that takes time. And oh yeah, learn to work on a Gen 4 tune in HpTuners.
