All caught up.
Sits pretty nice and low, it's got quite a bit of weight in it, but not all of it.

Your hub dials bother me. Thoughts on different wheels to recess them for protection?

Trying to clean things up, I certainly can't keep up with @caz, how the heck did you get the housing so clean on yours?

I split the housing at the steel plate in the middle. Actually pretty easy!

Then, Steel wool and Never Dull - and some elbow grease.....

Then ran them through the dishwasher.

Agreed.
These wheels with 33s are going back on the 62 and the Turbo Fans with 35s are going back on here.

The front has ifs hubs and the lockout dial is well protected.
The rear is an ifs width axle, but you are right, the hubs stick out just past the tire. When I put 1.5" spacers on back there it looks funny.
I will try it with the one inch spacers from the 62 if needed.

Here is a pic with a 35" on a stock fj62 wheel. Hub is well-protected and the wheel clears the caliper. I have a set of these wheels too.

I like the lockouts, I have fantasies of flat towing.
I plan to carry a drive flange or two as trail fix, but I haven't broken any lockouts before.

You can always pull the driveshaft like I used to. Flat towing is not a great idea.. you try and make a hard corner and the towed cars steering goes the wrong way, then you have to stop traffic and go turn it the right way. It technically may not be legal either.

I flat towed my old 4runner to GSMTR one year behind a full size 4 door Tahoe. Never got above 60 miles and hour and had two hands on the wheel the whole time! I bought a trailer when I got home from that trip. It may have had something to due with the 35" swampers....either way I told myself I would never do that again. :)

Well fellas, that's eons worth of experience speaking above, thanks for the advice.

@Tikicruiser care to weigh in with his flat towing experience?

I was considering flat towing locally, up to Rausch Creek or AOAA, there will be a trailer one way or another under it for the Cali trip.

If Bob would hurry up and decide if he's gonna sell me a trailer or not, maybe we can drop this topic all together. :flipoff2:

I had a great experience towing Crusha's, Aluma trailer to CO and back last year and have been shopping for similar.

That tight turn on the steep switchback could also be a bitch flat towing. The tow vehicle goes to the right and the towed vehicle goes left.

I flat towed to GSMTR once and that was enough.
