Thanks guys. It's coming along.Jollywood I missed the toysuzu so much I started building this one to replace it.HaHa

And one day Zombie I hope to own a diesel fj45 or I'll chop up my wrangler and make something similar. It would just make it more useful to me

sweet build man!

"or I'll chop up my wrangler and make something similar. It would just make it more useful to me"

careful posting about jeep/cruiser hybrids. I posted a tranfer case question about jeep/HF2A combos in the 80 tech under Abomination and got some hilarious responses.

Like the truck, was planning on using 80 axles under an 84 Xtra cab on 86 4Runner frame. Already put the cab on the 4Runner, now amassing suspension parts and ideas. Probably just use leaves on rear but was planning the same set-up in the front. With the IFS box does it turn lock to lock no problem or different pittman arm. Did you buy a kit for ram or homebrew?

I'm just talking about bobbing a wrangler tub into a half cab and running a flat bed,not using cruiser parts.Although I dont have a problem mismatching parts to create a more useful frankenstein.

Currently my wrangler has a 6.2 turbo diesel and all chevy running gear

I also built Jollywood's toysuzu which is an isuzu c223 diesel in a 85 solid axle toyota

I'm not a purist to say the least

I had thought about using leafs in the rear, but that would have meant alot of cutting to remove all the link brackets.Figured I would run the links and have better flex and ride.Seemed like a no-brainer to me.The IFS box does seem to turn full lock to lock no problem.I bought it used so I'm not for sure if its a stock pitman arm but I assume it is.Its a stock power steering pump and the box was already drilled and tapped for hydro assist. And I'm still trying to figure which ram to use as this setup came from a mini truck and only had a 6" throw ram.It is to short for sure.I measure 10" of steering throw and am still searching for the ram. That has been a bit of a headache.Refer to this thread https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/390925-question-about-hydro-assist-ram.html

I appreciate the information, dig the jeep w/6.2. After seeing your link set-up, I may try a similar route. Yours looks pretty clean.

progress

Got the tires mounted. And finally some decent pics

Rear end is coming together, got the shocks mounted

Crossmember mounted.dual cases painted up looking nice

Well I don't know much about the Toyota diesels. This one is a 2L n/a it is the first one I have seen.I've had it running a few times prior to the build and it purred nicely has around 100,000 miles on it.

I thought you said in an early post that it was the 1L, witch is a 1000cc motor. The 2L is a 2400cc right? My roommate had an '81 with one. Very nice truck and great fuel economy w/ the 5sp. This build is amazing I can't wait to see it.

You are correct.I have edited my original post.I am fairly confident this is a 2l.I will post some better pics of the engine.Maybe some toyota diesel guru will chime in and let me know for sure

The engine designation should be stamped on the block in big letters. I can't remember where of the top of my head, but I can probably find a picture of mine in a bit.

Also, the 1L is a 2.2. The 2L is a 2.4.

3L 2.8
5L 3.0

Passenger rear of block should have the engine code. Here's mine.

Curious about rear drive line to your t-cases. Since both diffs on 80 axles are offset and it looks like your rear output flange on the t-cases is somewhat centered. Can't tell how much of an angle you're dealing with, but you haven't addressed that point in this thread. Are you just going to live with it as is? Seems like the longer the rear drive shaft, the less of an issue it would be. If anything, maybe shorter u-joint life might be what you'd have to put up with. Anyway, neat project! Looks like a fun rig when you get 'er done:cheers:

The offset is a bit of concern. But I figure samurai guys have been doing something similar for years.A sami case and axles are offset just like a cruiser, but they often run centered toy axles.Seems to work for them. Also this will be a trail truck and won't see much if any higher speeds.I guess I will find out
