ICON Vehicle Dynamics is excited to announce the release of a new suspension system for one of the most off-road capable vehicles around – the 1991-1997 80 Series Toyota Land Cruiser. After an in-depth R&D process, ICON engineers have developed a 3” suspension system for the 80 Series that is aimed to improve on-road handling characteristics while also maximizing the Land Cruiser’s off-road potential.

The 80 Series Land Cruiser 3” Suspension System is comprised of ICON-designed dual rate coil springs, caster correction bushings, sway bar relocation components, all bracketry and hardware required for install, andICON 2.0 Aluminum Series or ICON 2.5 Series shocks. The dual-rate coils have been specifically designed to yield a soft ride under normal conditions, then stiffen under compression for increased bottom out resistance. The springs were also designed in a way that prevents them from being unseated at full droop - no more coils falling out on the trail! The included caster correction kit returns the steering geometry to an OE-like setup, improving on-road drivability and off-road handling characteristics. In traditional ICON fashion, these components have been organized into three stages that fit varying driving styles and intended uses.

The Stage 1 system includes ICON Vehicle Dynamics 2.0 Aluminum Series shocks that feature a corrosion resistant anodized body, 5/8" shaft, and vehicle specific valving for an optimized ride quality and balanced damping front to rear. The Stage 2 system adds larger, more off-road capable ICON 2.5 Series shocks to the equation. These shocks also include vehicle specific valving, but feature a 7/8” shaft, corrosion resistant CAD plated shock bodies, FK Rod End bearings for increased responsiveness and longevity, and remote reservoirs for more consistent performance under extreme use. The Stage 3 system outfits the 80 Series Land Cruiser with ICON 2.5 Series shocks that feature the CDCV, or Compression Damping Control Valve. This technology allows end-users to quickly adjust the ride quality of their shocks with the simple turn of a knob – no tools required! With ten high-resolution settings to choose from, the ICON CDC Valve will allow for the perfect ride quality across any terrain.

ICON products are all proudly made in the USA at our Southern California-based facility by a team of passionate off-road enthusiasts. With a reputation for quality, performance, and service ICON Vehicle Dynamics is the top choice for performance suspension systems and shock absorbers for the 1991-1997 80 Series Toyota Land Cruiser.

Would there be any way to get the shocks lengths including half of the stem bushings? I think most of the stem shocks are measured from the body and that is just confusing me....
Agreed, it would be easer to measure to the mounting surface, but that's what's become the standard unfortunately

Add 7/8" for 1 washer and 1 bushing to both extended and compressed to get to the mounting surface

695 mm total or 27.3" on those to mounting point with a rubber and washer added.

Are any Mudders running the Icon setup (stage 1, 2, or 3)?? Would love to hear some feedback. They look great, and I like the idea of dual rate springs.

Looks like a good setup thank you Dylan

I know I have been out of the 'MUD-loop for a while and this thread is 14-pages deep!
I Notice that Dylan of ICON has already posted in this thread and in my book, he is the suspension guru! And he is an 80-Series owner! All - ALL TECHNICAL QUESTIONS should be addressed to him. Heck, he is who I go to myself! I'm only here for the hype.
He's Chuck-D, I'm Flava-Flav! YEAAAABOOOOY! My 80-Series weights a ton, but I have so much fun!
12924392_508050132722270_8006804131574047560_n.jpg

And it all started with this rig right here in August of 2011 as Dylan used my ADV80 as his test fit guinea pig for ICON Vehicle Dynamics!

He began with various parts and pieces from ICON HD 2.5 V.S. Series Piggy-Back Shocks to test for fitment and set-up specifications that would work for the 80-Series. At that time, we were using TJM 4” Springs in conjunction with the “test shocks” that netted a Ramp Travel Index Score of *684 to **691 the Fork Lift Way.

But that was then and then Dylan got his own 80-Series and has continued development!!!

October 2015, Dylan set the ADV80 with 3” Progressive "test springs" that instantly delivered great ride quality. I always knew he was not totally happy with the 4" TJM's that we started with. Same time, Dylan talked me down an inch as the thought process of going from 4” down to 3” is lower center of gravity for better stability (rally car). I've been doing quite a bit of running with the Yotamasters crew and we like covering a lot of ground on our days in the desert, and a scratch lower CG and better ride quality has been a delight. And while most of you do not know me, nor know my driving style, it's rather fun having the big 80 "up on plain" and pedaling it! And it's walked whoops with the best of them! It's no trophy truck, but its no mall crawler either! It's way fun without getting yourself way over your head, but it will inspire over-confidence quickly! Yes, all because I have the suspension to do so!

To me, what I like about Dylan is that he comes from crawling background but he has spent countless hours of high speed desert driving! Yes, he fully understands the best of both worlds!!!

And before there was ever ICON Vehicle Dynamics, there was "Dylan-Dynamics!" as he built the suspension for my rally car!

With Dylan's suspension management, netting my team with a 1st Place in the 2003 Western States Rally Championships - Group2.

Simply put, if you are in the choice range, there is only one choice! ICON VEHICLE DYNAMICS
May as well roll bone stock, if not!

Having run many brands in the past, custom built, custom lengths, triple bypass, yada yada, I have to say that since we have been working with the guys at Icon, and Dylan, our custom stuff has never been riding better, or simpler.

Its going to be great to have our Overlanding Slinky Long Travel stuff available for those who want all the trimmings and overlanding, with Redline, as well as our coil over kits and Super Slinkies [coming this year] and having kits like these Dylan has developed for weekenders and less accessorized vehicles with softer valving, shorter [but still long for an 80] shocks that dont need brake lines or sway bar mounts, bump spacers etc and softer coils.

Its one of the reasons we introduced better stages of brake packages for Cruisers, because automatically your corner speeds are up, as the car feels safer, lean is reduced, nose dive is reduced, and the car feels like it wont stop!

One of the good side effects.

Sooo...will just the shocks be available for folks wanting/needing a new shock but who don't want a 3" lift and already have an ~stock height to 1" lift and would running these shocks at the lower end of their lift range somehow limit their performance?

Would love to hear info on this. I need to replace my stock shocks cuz they're on the way out, but don't have the funds for a full lift kit right now (though I do want one). Would I be able to pick up the standard icon 2.0 shocks now and then finish the lift kit later? Would the Autocraft slinky coils work with those shocks?

@DylanICON i know it says on your site that brake lines are recommended but do i NEED them on a stage 3 kit? Im assuming you have stage 3 on your icon80 pictured above right? Are you running extended brake lines on them?

Brake lines will work if you tweak the mounting tabs so the lines point toward one another a little.

The part Nos listed go close for low lift, you might add 3/8 spacers to bump stop to be completely sure.

If you drill and machine the high mis alignment spacers on the FJ / 200 Icon alloy arms and extend them aprox 10mm longer they will fit in the 80.

Our coils will work with those shocks, but there are also longer ones which will help utilize the full travel with some sway bar brackets and rear bump stops, for a tad extra cost.

Is it possible to get those longer shocks outside of the full lift kit and will they work with stock springs? I just can't swing purchasing the full kit right now, but need to replace my shocks cuz the fronts are starting to leak. @DylanICON might be better able to answer this.

@AutoCraft Aus
Just to confirm, your Slinky coils are taller than ICON's and run longer shocks than their kit? What is the front/rear lift over stock (inches please so us metrically challenged can compare to ICON)? (The answer may be buried in last 14 pages, but now the ICON kit is officially posted, it would be nice to have a quantitative (lift and weight capacity) and qualitive (handling) comparison of your Slinky kit compared to the ICON kit.

I am really interested in the ICON kit, but want 4" (for 37" tires), and would use 30 mm spacers with their springs and bump stop spacers so I could run the longer version of their shock. It sounds like your Slinky kit uses the longer version shock and handles and flexes similarly to the ICON kit?

It looks like you have a rear airbag available? Does it hamper the flex of the Slinky if aired down. (My 80 had airbags installed on OEM springs when I bought it, liked the ability to air up for towing or the occasional heavy load, while having a lighter spring the 97% of the time it was not loaded down. I heard they limited travel so I pulled them when I installed OME medium.)

Thanks!

What would the price be for just springs? @Dylan
Thank you

Greg

the stock springs will come loose at droop

the shocks will go to full factory bump stops so they will work
