I don't want to come across as Sheepish here, but the ability to light up your underside of your truck while crawling would be Baaaaaaaaaad to the bone

I've said it before and I'll say it again, these rock rails are great for about 90% of the people on mud. Are they expensive? Not compared to a set of sliders. They are worth what people are willing to pay, and it seems like phil has sold a few sets so, there you go.

If you belong to the other 10% of mud that actually NEEDS sliders, you know who you are, and you will be willing to shell out the extra bucks for a legit set of sliders. I have seen way too many metaltech sliders on rigs that only see offroad time when they accidentally drive over the curb. You also know who you are.;)

that'd be me ;) although i consider mark a friend, i won't buy metaltech because of the way his little slider lawsuit was handled and i can't justify the money on my cheap well worn rig. that's why i went the inexpensive way and modified pickup sliders.

phils would be a great setup for those without welders or the time to fab. even if they aren't frame mounted, they will distribute the weight. that's the entire point. look at the fj55s that run body mounted slide rockers. some of them wheel hard and they're just running thick steel rectangular stock welded to the sheetmetal body.

Take this as constructive criticism. A 80 weighs a lot. Without any real support on the end of those tubes it's be easy to pop those lights out and crush them. Neat idea, tho.

First of all, how does your design team come up with these ideas? I can see the benefit of seeing what's under your truck like the snakes from the last trip or skunks.

The inspiration comes from food, sometimes alcohol, and meeting in a place where 20 -35 year old Scottsdale women frequent.

Back to the drawing board

Here is another thing to consider. I have MT sliders on at the moment but have Phil's at home ready to install when I get there. With the 1" body lift that I had to get for the Cummins install my sliders now sit an inch lower which to me looks odd. Too much of a gap. Since Phil's mount to the body I won't have that gap anymore once installed.

Mr Cimarron, I truly appreciate your support but in no way do I want people to think Rock Rails are on the same level as MT. I have done my best to document, provide pictures and video, and detailed construction on the manufacturing on where and what level of protection our Rock Rail provide. It is still my belief RR will provide a level of protection for most 80 owners based on 1000's of trail miles with the added clearance and reduction in weight that comes with.

As discussed earlier if you are a hard wheeler, stupid wheeler, or find yourself drinking or smoking (too much) pot while wheeling MT, SLee, etc is where you want to spend your $$ or buy a mini truck:flipoff2:

I here you. I haven't touched a rock with my MTs yet so I don't see the need to have them. All they have done is get mud on my pants and almost break the dogs leg. Plus I need to ditch of weight.
I guess I look at your sliders like a bike helmet. May have to replace one if they are crushed but the cruiser walks away damage free.

I dont have mud flaps so I kept my original step trim. I used snips to do 95% of the removal then used my 4" sander to clean it up. I couldnt live with the empty attachment point. Looks good enough. Real happy with the product. I also used snips to remove the lip on the LX plastic trim so the RR fits real snug. I just did a dry fit prior to drilling, used a paint marker measured out every 13", center punched, then drilled my holes. Fit nicely but I did have to persuade it with a rubber mallet.
Overall a very satisfied customer with both product and service. I'm also going to sport my new shirt from Phil on my next trip out. On a side note I used some dupli-color on the RRs that match the LX trim color fairly well. Thanks Phil
