I have a question for those of you who've done radio swaps on your 80. I'm in the process of installing a new one on DaughterOfSlabsides45's ride, and I see on the wiring harness that it has a ground to the brake. If I neglect to connect that wire, will it blow the fuse, not allow me to alter settings (since it thinks I'm driving all the time) or what? Thinking I might just ground that sucker to the frame and call it good.

I connected the harnesses (bought the '84 and up harness from Scosche - Scosche TA02B - and connected everything, ran the rear camera setup, ran the wifi and gps, the crock pot and the frappuccino hookups, then plugged it in and promptly saw Fuse 10 in the engine bay blow. Mebbeh shoulda disconnected the battery before doing some of that....

Suggestions on parking brake wire and why I blew a fuse? Is it my diet?

Parking brake ground is so you can only watch movies when your parked and have the parking brake set. As far as the fuse blowing double check your wiring. YELLOW is constant power and RED is switched ignition. For the fuse to blow it is shorting somewhere. Depending on the head unit I’ve had the fuse blow if the internal amp in the head unit is capable of 45w RMS per channel but if that were the case it would only blow when the volume is at a high level. Harness could be pinched behind the head unit somewhere.

Hey y’all, I’m looking for a good 1FZ. Anyone know of any?

Check with @slow95z he may have one.

I'll be doing an engine swap sometime in the next few months and will have one but it will need some work (300+k miles and uses oil but still runs strong)

what year? i have a great 93/94 engine that was rebuilt by a local shop and only has about 20K on it before the truck was rolled and now is being parted out.

I am checking to see if year matters to the owner of the truck. Do you have a price in mind?

yes years matter, i can tell you that right now.

i would want 3K for it. comes complete drop in ready with everything on it including wiring harness and all accessories.

Alrighty, sending the info to the shop. I’ll let you know but don’t hold it.

Thank you for that, I will go back and look. I noticed that they sell two different harnesses that different folks have had work. I've watched a youtube vid from an Aussie who said that when plugging in to the 2 grey plugs to bypass the (larger white) OEM plug, you also move over to the amp and unplug the two amp plugs over there. Correct? Still looking for good threads on the wiring setup under the dash, as wiring diagrams (to me) look like mandarin.

Sending a pm.

So evidently the composite kazuma serpentine pulley lasts approx 150k miles before disintegrating. Disaster narrowly avoided. Bearing siezed, pulley melted, blower belt shredded, took out ac belt and twisted one of the alt belts. But otherwise escaped without too much drama. Belts were near new :/

Went from one issue to another.

Got the new stereo working. After reading up on it in the 80 Tech area, seems that you need to unplug the stock amp (2 plugs under the passenger dash speaker) and then you DON'T want to connect the power antenna (blue) wire, as it will cause issues. So I cut the blue wire and re-installed it.

So the new issue is that now the power antenna won't work, even if trying to just use the up/down buttons. I didn't do anything to mess with that switch, so WTHk? Is there something associated with that amp that might have an effect?

The blue wire you cut is the power wire for the antenna. You can tie it into the RED (IGN 12v) and it should function again. If not you have another issue.

What dial? No dial.

Doh. I didn’t bother with the 288 additional pictures after I got through the 2 repaints, air bag light, sheared hatch strut bolt, etc in first few paragraphs. Sad. Misrepresented and overpriced.

Hey guys, not sure if I can post here without being a member, but I recently purchased an 80 series which my son drives at ole miss. I've lurked here quite a bit and see that there is a lot of local knowledge.

I am not near as handy with a wrench as some of you, I intend to handle the small things as best I can, but would like a recommendation for a trusted shop when it comes to knuckle rebuilds and so forth.
