Hey y'all. Anyone have any idea of what could cause tire "cupping?" Got lots of high and low spots on my tires. My first thoughts are shocks. Could it be anything else? My tie rod ends could be replaced as they're probably the original ones. My shocks are the TJM adjustable foam cell tiger shocks. They may be bad though.

I don't know what causes it. But I have had bad luck with Toyo tires cupping. I have 37" Toyo open country RTs on my truck and they are cupping with 15k on them. My buddy just put a set of open country AT extremes on his truck and started to wear unevenly before the first rotation. That being said I've never had cupping issues outside of toyo tires.

Wouldn't think bad shocks would cause cupping. Likely either poor caster or steering is out. How does it drive? And have you had it aligned to check the numbers.

Haven't had it aligned yet. Didn't even think about that. It drives straight. Has a 2.5 progressive lift and doesn't feel like the steering is all over the place. Actually steers better than my old 4runner did before the sas. I did notice there wasn't any caster correction plates and bushings seem to be black in color. I was thinking about getting a little bit taller of a spring front and rear. @tacoma2002 has the same size tire but his set up gives him plenty more clearance. Maybe i need to re do the suspension some

I've never had this issue before with coopers. My STTPros did just fine. Maybe it's just the tire. They're cooper ST Maxx. I love the tire. They're like an aggressive A/T. Did well at hot springs

Well, feels like it fought me every step of the way but the low mile 80 is back on the road! Big thanks to Jrob for passing the project on to me, to Beno for his consistent badass parts help, and especially to Rob for letting me pick his brain on several occasions. I'm SO glad this one didn't end up as parts like it's fate was looking. Just too nice of a truck for that.

Ahhhhh... The truck that @dbbowen couldn't wait on to buy :-)

@Bossman, any cupping on your 80's tires?!!!

Unfortunately, in my experience, when a tire starts to cup, it's hard to bring it back to wearing true. I would have them balanced and rotate them properly. I try to rotate every oil change or less than 5k miles to prevent funny wear. Make sure they're inflated properly. @Bomar recommends the chalk line test to get your air pressure correct.

I need a set of bolts to mount the 97 4.5 engine to the transmission, also need a power steering pump with the mounting nuts, brass gear, key way and nut, any one have these near Jackson?

#1 lack of rotation
#2 alignment
#3 worn suspension

Hahahah it sucks because the tires still have a ton of tread left. I've had them rebalanced and rotated recently. Vibration is gone. Definitely will rotate more often than I usually do. Is there a machine that can true up tires?

Just had them re balanced and rotated. Going to get an alignment here soon. I think this TJM 2.5 inch progressive lift is pretty old. I don't have any symptoms of blown shocks. Maybe the shocks are set too soft. There's little adjustment dials on them that I haven't messed with yet.

On that same note. I was thinking about ditching the RTT idea and roof rack idea for newer suspension parts lol. I can sleep on the ground

Boss, I need carpet headliner, door panels, have decent seats but the guy picked up animal feed in it regularly and let it go bad in the carpet, also he put snaps into the headliner and the visors and tore the hell out of it, coke and candy in every crevasse and left over mouse waists required a full gut

Is this for the LX V8 swap truck or do you have another project going?

What is the consensus here on keeping EGR? Seems everybody has a different opinion on the forums here. With MS not having any inspections there doesnt seem to be any reason to keep in on the vehicle. P0401 code has been present the whole time Ive owned the vehicle so I was thinking of just removing it and capping it off but didnt know how to "trick" the computer on a '97.

Get rid of it. Pull off the rear exhaust manifold and tap the passage in the head. There is no reason to have hot exhaust flowing through the back of the head. You can leave the egr valve and all other components in place. As far as tricking the computer may be able to do it with a resister on the temp sensor side or block the vsv vacuum lines. A P0401 never bothered me once I eleminated the hot exhaust going back through the head. Engine light would come on every 4-6 months

Is the 97 difderent than a 95. I thought you could wire in a 30 cent resistor to temp sensor to fool the CPU

95 is the odd year. First year for obd2 but is a mixture of obd1 and obd2. Resistor may work in the later models but haven't verified
