80 Series bumpers list in a spreadsheet (1 Viewer)

Bumpers are an obnoxious item to ship. Several hundred for shipping should be factored in to a budget when looking for a bumper, most of the time.

I bought a slee rear bumper for my 100 last year and it was roughly $250-270 to ship on a pallet. that stung a little, gotta pay to play though.

Slee's shipping quote to Pennsylvania was over $200 for the TJM T17. I bought one from The Bumper Superstore with free shipping...I looked up a savings code online and saved some more. It was just over $600 shipped from CA.

Although it is a great deal with the consumer, I have no idea how they do that, except to sell stuff and extremely low margins and try to do volume. I know what we pay for the bumper and there is not enough margin in to have free shipping. I do know that they do mostly, if not all sales as drop ships. So they never have to handle the product, and probably never have to supply any tech support on installation.

What is worse the NMFTA recently reclassified all auto parts NMFC classes and all steel bumpers and nerf bars (running boards) ship in higher freight classes (125 vs 85) than what it did before, so now all freight of bumpers are way more to ship then 3 months ago.

I'm not sure if where you live is the same, but most community college's around here offer welding classes. They offer not only day classes, but night classes too for those who have to work for a living, and the cost to attend is very reasonable too.

That's what I did, finally satisfying a decades old itch.
Really wanted to take welding in high school, but other types of classes had higher priority and filled my schedule.
So "Art Welding" class at the local community college - long Friday evenings for a semester.
Sort of a welding survey - intro to oxy-acetylene welding, brazing, stick, and MIG. Didn't get to TIG though :(
Bought a MIG machine, and off to the races I went - fun ever since.
Honestly - spent more than I really needed to - heavy duty 250 Amp 240VAC machine.
Majority of projects are covered by : 16 guage (0.062"), 11 guage (1/8"), 3/16", occasional 1/4" bar stock, which a solid 180 Amp machine covers with one hand tied behind it's back.

Thinking of building that bumper right now...

I completely agree and, I think the NWTI kit would be a great beginner welding project. That’s why I thought it should be included.
But not my thing. I have to weld for a living so that kind of kills it for me as a hobby. I know that probably doesn’t make sense, but I just want to bolt some on and be done.

I agree, there is no way they are covering the freight charges with their sales when offering free shipping. We ship daily at my business and I know what kind of discounts can be had with high volume and there is still not much if any room there for a profit.

I recently purchased an ARB front bumper from a large online retailer of 4x4 parts, it was on sale, I was able to apply a 10% off coupon and also got free shipping! It drop shipped directly from ARB (as far as I can tell) and arrived damaged... I filed a complaint and they offered to take it back and ship me a new one at no charge... It was minimal damage that I could repair, but a $1k bumper should be pretty nice in my opinion. I counter offered asking for a partial credit instead, thinking the are going to waste ~$150-200 each way on shipping to swap it and be stuck with a damaged bumper they cant sell. They would only give me $75 refund... I shipped it back on their dime and got a new undamaged one instead.

Moral of the story is, I dont know how smaller independent retailers can survive in a market like that and stay profitable. I do my best to support them when I can, but sometimes the $ wins.

I bought my front and rear bumpers from Avid Offroad mainly because they offered free shipping. Pretty happy with them.

One thing i learned a long time ago, you'll never be disappointed by having to large of a welding machine. That's the reason why i have a water cooled 310 amp Hobart Tig welder sitting in my shop. If the job I'm working on needs more heat, I'm able to just turn up the dial, and then mash the go peddle.

2 more bumpers here

Love their stuff! It looks like those are just for the 60 series. I sent them a message asking if they had any front bumpers for the 80. I'd take their triple bar winch bumper over an ARB if it was available.

We do. I’ve attached a couple pics for you. They ship non-powder coated though as they always seem to get damaged (the coating) so we quit sending them powder coated. It’s about a 2wk lead time to produce the bumper and we charge $950 plus whatever shipping is. Bumper lights are not included nor is the winch.

Let me know and thanks for your inquiry.

I'm looking for an adequate, inexpensive bumper for my daughter's High School cruiser and I discovered in my multi-hour search that a lot-most-ok, all, the threads are out of date and it's tough to find current offerings outside the big 3. I compiled a google spreadsheet with the info that was important to me and thought it might be useful to others. I've made it so that anyone with the link can update it, so feel free to add columns for important features. I want the cheapest with protective hoops since my kids seem to damage the fenders and hood up high...and I'm not innocent myself.

I'm done with it, so feel free to add to it, correct it, etc. It might be cool to have another sheet for rear bumpers, sliders, whatever. If it violates any rules I'm unaware of I'll happily unshare it. Just let me know.

*EDIT*: With this being a publicly shared sheet, please keep any commentary objective and something the vendors wouldn't mind being seen. Dates are good for reference. Nobody likes to see old info and think it's new. I scrubbed my personal commentary out of the sheet. "Just the facts, ma'am."

Copy the link to your browser and add "https://"

*Note: To add pictures to a Google sheet, select the cell, then "Insert > Image > Image In Cell > By URL" from the menu. Right click on your picture and "Copy Image address" and paste it in the URL text box on the google sheet. Easy Peasy.

I'll update this sometimes because I like to, but really, it's like the kitchen at work. Learn to clean the freakin' microwave! Feel free to update the sheet with info you find.

I’ll give it a shot adding the next one I find myself. Thanks for the instructions.

Haha! No worries. This sheet could have a long and happy life here. I just want to make sure I'm not the only one who can do it/is doing it.

On the topic of shipping costs..... Many of us here build these trucks to be able to drive places and see new things. While it doesn't exactly fit the typical description, why not take a road trip to the vendor and pick up your bumper in person and save the shipping cost? Of course you'll incur the cost of travel/fuel that will offset or exceed the cost of shipping, but you'll also get a cool experience and see somewhere new (maybe) for that cost instead of just forking over a few hundred bucks for nothing tangible. ;)

I look for any excuse I can find to get out and drive.

Yea, that was an oopsie. Here are the 80 series bumpers from them.

That's their 80 Series restoration advertising page. What's interesting is I searched around their site and didn't find any pages specific to the bumpers they build for the 80, and some they show in their pictures that are unique and I haven't seen anywhere else. I did add them to the spreadsheet after I got the email and some pictures.
