I haven't made any progress on the FJ45 lately because my air compressor pump broke down. Had to order some parts from Campbell Hausfeld to fix it. Actually I had to order parts twice because of a part revision that didn't initially show up in the parts diagram. Anyways, I replaced the valve plate assembly, gaskets and belt and got it working again on Friday evening. I sure was handicapped without that compressor and I am glad to have it going again.

I spent Saturday driving to pick up a 73 FJ40 that I bought from a fellow Mud member. 720 mile round trip and six hours each way, but well worth it. I bought it as a parts truck for the FJ45, but it is in such good shape and has so little rust, I am not sure what I am going to do with it yet. It has rust at the rear sill, the gas tank well and a small spot in the left rear corner where the rear seat bolts down and that's it. The engine sounds great and appears to have been rebuilt very recently. The leaf springs and shocks were recently replaced and still have the remains of the decals on them. The steering is tight and the clutch works great. It does have some electrical issues that will need to be sorted out and the brakes have air in the lines. But all in all a very nice rig.

The first pic of the FJ40 was sent to me by the previous owner and the rest were taken after I got it home. One thing is for sure, I do love my wife for allowing me to have such a hobby.

I've made a little progress on the truck recently and here are a couple of recents pics. I removed the driver's floor section and decided that it will be best to replace the passenger's floor section also so I will be removing that soon. I am working to get some of the ones that Paul makes down in Panama. They are supposed to be in the US at the end of next week.

I found a big old rats nest inside the boxed section at the bottom rear of the cab. Along with that I found about 3 Lbs of dirt and debris trapped inside of there. It's no wonder these things rust out in certain areas like they do.

Finally, the last pick is what the FedEx guy brought me today. I splurged and bought the complete OME kit with the greasable pins, Etc. I figure this truck is probably worth it. Now if I can only find the time to get the frame painted I can start putting this thing back together. Hopefully I can get the frame done next week.

I would like to change the title on this thread because I feel like I am starting to go the other direction now. But, I can't figure out how to do that. If it can be done and someone knows how to do it, please let me know.

Here are a bunch of pics of some rust repair that I have been working on recently. Last weekend I worked on a strategy of piecing in a section of new metal at the bottom rear section of the cab. After all of that work, I was not 100% happy with the result so I ended up removing the whole panel and worked on a different strategy of installing the access holes into a new panel made out of 18 guage cold rolled steel. A local sheet metal guy made the new panel for me for $5.00. It was 62" long which is more than my brake can handle. I am much happier with the end result of this strategy.

BTW, someone earlier in this thread said that Land Cruiser sheetmetal was 12 or 14 guage and that is not the case on the parts I am repairing. I have wire brushed paint off of some of the non rusted sections and checked the thickness. The 18 guage cold rolled steel that I am using is within .002" of the original steel on my Cruiser. I hope you enjoy the pics.

Pretty sure that only moderators are able to change the title of your thread. Cruiserbrett is the one for this section. I'd PM him and see what can be done.

Truck is looking great. Keep up the nice work.

Thanks for the encouragement guys, I need my cheering section to keep me motivated. I am at the stage of this project where it feels more like work than fun. Spent quite a bit of time wearing eye and ear protection this weekend. Here are some pics that are pretty self explanatory. I know the pace is kind of slow, but I'll get there eventually.

Sent a PM to the moderator last week on changing the name of this thread, but haven't heard back from anyone.
