Mine doesn't work with the L shaped legs at all. I exhausted all different combinations/contortions/directions/different bolts possible before I ever even considered trying the plate without using the L shaped legs. After trying all of that, then trying all of the different possibilities with just the plate, I figured I'd ask for help before I do something "creative". My engine stand must be different from everyone elses. It is a "Jet" brand. Works great for big blocks and small blocks, but I can't seem to make it work for a 2F without some modifications.

Liquid Sealer

So, I am working at replacing all of the gaskets and seals on my engine and the FSM calls for the use of "Liquid Sealer" for several of the gaskets. What is this magical liquid sealer, and is there a recommended substitute that I can buy at my local NAPA or Car Quest?

Also, one of my camshaft lobes is worn a little so I am going to be replacing it along with a new set of lifters. From my research on this topic on this site, etc., I think I will probably go with the SOR RV grind cam and resurfaced lifters. I'm not looking for any real performance upgrade here, just a basically stock reliable engine. Would anyone here recommend against this cam for any reason?

Thanks

I think thats the FIP (form in place) gasket sealer. You can get it from Toyota, or Napa has it.... At Napa its called Anarobic sealer by loctite, its red but comes in blue tube. about 15 bucks IIRC. Worth it though, the stuff does not harden like silicone sealer while it sits in your toolbox waiting for your next project.
And, unlike silicone sealer, I have never had a leak when using this stuff.

Just a couple of pics to update on my progress.

The first 2 pics show how I had to slightly modify my engine stand to make it work on the 2F.

Next is a poor picture showing the worn lobe on my camshaft.

Last is a picture of the shortblock as it now appears. It took some work to get off all of the original gasket material. I have all of my new gaskets and seals to put it all back together, but now I have to order a new cam and lifters and wait till they arrive before I can reassemble. That will give me some time to clean and paint all of the various parts.

I got pics of bolting an F series engine on the engine stand you have.:bounce:

But I am too dumb to get them posted up here.

I'll email 'em and you can resize and post a couple up.

I got the engine block all cleaned up and painted this weekend. I forgot to take any pictures while I had it all taped up. I used Semi-gloss black paint and it is a little glossier than I would have liked, but it will have to do.

I also got the cylinder head all taken apart. Just need to clean a little carbon off of the valves, clean and paint it all and it will be ready to put back together. I hope to receive my cam and lifters later this week. I ended up going with the MAF billet stock grind cam and reground lifters. I would have bought their billet RV grind but it was going to take several more weeks because they were out of stock.

Keep it up man and you might pass me up. I had to go completely thru my entire drivetrain though. Looks good though.

Not a chance. Man, you are almost done, and I am just getting started. Your truck is looking awesome.

frame looks like mine did, two years ago, and still not finished yet, Remind me, why do we do things like this?

For me, it's that feeling of satisfaction that you get when you finish a project like this, or accomplish a goal. Also, I'd rather be working on a project like this than sitting around watching TV. There just doesn't seem to be much on TV these days that interests me.

I wish I could say the same. But there almost always seems to be something good to watch :)

:mad:GGGRRRRRR:mad:

Well, the big brown truck arrived this afternoon to deliver my MAF camshaft. I was all excited until I opened the box and found that they had shipped me the wrong cam.

So, now I have to go to the post office on Monday and pay to ship it back to them. Did I mention that I hate to stand in line at the post office?

To get the right cam shipped to me now, I was given two options:

1) When they received this cam back they would ship me the right one. Probably looking at a good 2.5 weeks before I get the right cam.
2) Pay for another cam and have it shipped. Hopefully get the cam about this same time next Friday. Then, when they get the first cam back they will apply the credit back to my card.

I selected option 2.

I asked if they would expedite the second shipment because of their error. They said they would if I wanted to pay for it. Not my idea of great customer service.

I've always heard that you don't want a car that was built on a Friday afternoon or Monday morning. Maybe that applies to placing orders also. I placed my order last Friday afternoon and it was picked and shipped last Monday morning.

Since I won't be doing the work on the Cruiser that I had planned for this weekend, I think I might just go fishing. It would probably do me some good anyway.

Rant off

No work on the Cruiser this weekend because I am waiting on some parts to arrive.

It was such a nice weekend I just had to go fishing and enjoy some down time.

Mmmm, guess what's for dinner tonight.
