Last night I got started on a patch panel for the left rear lower corner of the cab. It's not finished yet, but I made a pretty good start. I started by tracing the outline at the bottom of the original so I could match the curve. Next, I made the initial bend at the bottom of the panel. Then, I cut grooves every 1/2" with a cutoff wheel and bent it around the curve at the top of the cab. Now I need to work on the bends at each end and weld/grind all of the little grooves. Seemed to work pretty good so far.

The first picture picture shows what was replaced during my last series of pictures.

The last picture shows my first attempt at the rear corner patch panel last night, but I made the notches too big and it would have been too hard to fill in the gaps so I started over.

A little more progress on my patch panel last night.

I notched out the inside corner a little so I could fit the panel into my brake to make the inside bend. Same thing that I had to do the other day to make my rocker panel replacement. I made the outside bend in my vise with a hammer and dollie.

I then lined it all up upside down on the opposite side of the cab and tacked all of the gaps in place. Then I welded up the gaps along the bottom edge.

I didn't feel much like grinding metal last night, so I left it like that and went inside to play with :princess:. It was a good night .

I finished up my little corner patch panel last night. I ground down all of the initial welds, then touched up a few pin holes and reground those areas. I think I got it looking pretty good - at least better than what it will be replacing. Final step was to cut off the excess from each end.

No word from Cruiserbrett on changing the name of this thread. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Marvin

Just a little bit done on my truck last night. I decided to work on the back bottom edge of the cab some. First, I had to straighten it out some with a hammer and dollie. I cut out 2 sections that were rusted through and got my patch piece ready to weld into place. But, that is where I stopped for the night.

Not much done on my truck last night. But, I got the little bottom edge patches welded in and ground down. I also closed up a few screw holes along the top inside of the cab.

I left those welds a little proud for strength and I figure nobody will ever be able to see them since they are basically inside of a box when everything is said and done.

A few pics to update on my recent progress. I cut out and patched the area where the rear cab base attaches at the bottom. It was pretty straight forward.

I cut out the left rear corner of my cab and got it ready to weld in my new patch panel, but I haven't welded it in yet. After spending some time looking at my floor sections, I have decided to order a whole new floor from Paul in Panama through tlc4x4. The floor is supposed to come already assembled with braces etc. Because of the shape of the cab, I think I will probably have to insert the floor section before I install the rear corner piece.

So, I have moved on to working on the bed sides. I am not sure if it is totally necessary, but I made a wooden brace structure to keep everything flat and straight while I weld in these rather large flat sections on the side of the bed. I felt like things could get sort of wavy if I didn't do something like this. I have started welding in the new section, but I am going to really take my time on these pieces so things don't get too hot.
