@rkymtnflyfisher

Holy $hit brother the rumors are true…I had an @OGBeno encounter. Yep, he popped up on my thread and left an Emogi..I heard he was liven’ up on the Bitterroot, in a cave, writing his Memoirs. I was gonna hit him up for a Vader Light, a Big Window SD-40 carb and a set of of double sided front blinkers, but in the end, I felt it imprudent….

What a coincidence: I have two of those three. 😉

Well, it’s official. The Mule is in pre-op on a 90wt drip and the surgeons are assembled.

Pics or it didn’t happen!😛 I expect to see a chalk outline where the corpse hit the ground.

I’ll post all breaking news as it unravels…

Everything was going well right up until the oil pan came off.

The irony in “the telling” is that decrepit old beast had never run better. Good oil pressure, no knocks, no smoke no tell tale signs a bearing was keeping a secret etc etc etc.

Good news- Bad news scenario.

It didn’t seize up while out and about on a lake adventure. so, at least IMHO there’s no catastrophic damage (more to follow after my optimistic comment) IE no gaping hole in the side of the block where a rod exited stage right. No inspection of the internals yet so, that theory may soon evaporate.

So, depending on the postmortem, I‘m at a couple different options 1. Source another 2f. 2. Rebuild current (If rebuildable). 3. Move to different internal combustion platform. 4. Part out and sell for scrap. 5. Send off in a Viking blaze of glory.

Sooo, I’ve hung a black wall tire on the door as a sign to the neighbors and I’ll begin working my way through the 5 stages of 2f engine failure….😎

Five stage of 2f loss.

1. Denial……..(No F@#$&+% way)
2. Anger……..(F@#$&+% stupid Mule) < I am here. 🤬
3. Bargaining..(Bet I could trade it for a Subaru. The diamond plate doesn’t have a scratch on it. I know what it’s worth 🤣)
5. Depression.(F@#$ Me Matilda)
5. Acceptance.(Better dig up the number to Advance Adapters 😁)

Well in all seriousness, I’m weighing the options. The Time / Benefit / cost ratio is going to weigh heavily in the Course of Action Analysis. I have a couple potential big muscle movements ($$$) that are looking at me with greedy eyes..

Right now, sending it off in a blaze of glory, AKA a Viking Funeral Pyre, seems a very fitting end. 😑

I'm sorry for your loss. Rebuilding the 2f to your meticulous standards in your garage would give you immense satisfaction when driving her again.

meticulous standards

Brother, I think you have the wrong thread……

This here’s a thread about an old, crusty, semi broken down, rough around the edges, ready for the bone yard, cantankerous, pig headed, obstinate, unshaven wretch who happens to own a TLC Fj40 called the “Mule”.

You’re probably looking for @Jdc1. Hop on over, have a look see, tell him I sent cha’..😉

You could consider slipping over to the dark side with an LS swap. Or a more 40 Tech approved modern Toyota swap.

Depending on how every thing pans out, that may be a viable option. Although, if it ends up being a swap, I’d like something with more low end grunt and not a lot of HP…

Been there man and went through all those stages. Would not wish this on anyone. 😔 Lost mine to oil starvation, somehow the tip of my distributor broke off while driving resulting in no oil pressure. Engine just shut off on me, pulled over and couldn't get it to turn over. RIP seized 2F, you performed so well until the end.
After a few weeks of whining, I ended up buying a used 60 series 2F from a friend, stripped it down and bolted all my early FJ40 accoutrements on it. Worked great and I even gained a spot to add a PS pump for my future 60 series PS swap. Considered a V8 swap for a bit but I am glad I kept it all Toyota even if it still isn't very fast. That was important to me for the sake of simplicity, too many frankencruisers out there already that need you to have a triple doctorate in hillbilly engineering to troubleshoot.
It's not the end of the world like it seems today. Good luck with whatever swap you go with, the Mule will rise again, like a Phoenix from the ashes just like mine did!

This is kinda weird. I lost nothing. Oil pressure good, no weird noises, no slap - just a little dust//flake in the pan. Thankful I wasn’t on some WV back road or chauffeuring a gaggle of OU co-Ed’s around the lake.

Honestly, it’s practically a 50yr old machine. Something gives on occasion. As you may have guessed, I’m not one to fret over OE. Well, OE looks anyway.

I figure it this way, Ive got a pocket full of possibilities. A blank page so to speak. As my bird hunting buddy ”B1” reminds me, “There’s no financial reason you can’t do that”. Now if I can just find someone in need of a well used kidney….😉

Think Mrs Revenge would miss her 5.7?
