PS/engine

Got the alt. moved to the pass. side and mounted the pump. Also mounted a cooler behind the grill. What belts are used for the GM to Toy pulleys?I cant afford nor justify paying $100+ for a wide sag pump pulley

PS/engine

Got some belts working today.Found one that will work for the ps/wp/cs for now.Had to move the alt. back 3/16 in order for the small groove pulley to line up.Also scored a Grant steering wheel for $10.Finally can ditch the stock wheel.Ordered Grant adapter # 4579 for 69-75 fjs(33 spline).Pick up pressure line tomorrow, install, and pray that everything works:wrench::deadhorse:

I'm waiting to hear how the rest of that steering conversion went?????

back on the road

Today was a good day! After a few weeks of down time, the 55 is back on the road with power steering.Wired the alt. to pass. side, hooked the pressure line, and bled the system.Fired right up,no leaks or squeaks.Totally out of $,but it was worth it.Glad to have the dirty work done before the snow starts to fly.Tried to keep a stock look under the hood.I like it:steer::hillbilly:

SW

Dont throw stones, but I got my steering wheel mounted, and it is soo nice.Couldnt do the bus driver anymore. Also made a new LP light housing. Its a little larger so I can weld "FJ55" across it.20 ga. steel should hold up a little better to the elements.

I won't hate. you sir, are a badass.

body

Went to see my body/paint guy, just to get a quote. He said he could make it look sweet with the olive green/white 2 tone for no more than $4000.So I laughed, then laughed a little more. For sure not in the budget for now.He had just finished this '82 40,and it looks sweet. Also bought a 3.0 MB Turbo diesel motor. Not sure if I will go down this path, but got it for next to nothing.Had to drive over to the Toyota dealership to pick up a new doughnut gasket for the exhaust. That is good times pulling up in a 55,had the sales people coming out for a look,Anyway exhaust leak fixed, and much more quiet. It will be hard for me to pull this F motor, she is running like a champ.

That is the original paint, with the exception of the roof.Someone before me painted it white, but I can see the gray coming through again.

Sheriff Jon Brown

The sheriff told me that I need a rear bumper on the 55.So since I always do what Im told,I started a rear bumper today using what I have laying around.Did buy the hinges, they are for large gates and rated at 1500 lbs.If they fail, then I will know better next time, but for the pair at $35,I thought I would give them a shot.33" tire and 2 jerry cans will fit nice.

The mockup looks great! I would be a little leery of the gate hinges. I think that to give them the biggest chance of survival I would use a piece of delrin, under the arms when they are closed so that they don't bounce. I think it is that bouncing movement on such a long lever arm that causes the failure.

Did some welding today, got the hinges and arms on.I did use 1/4 plate in the center,as Ryan advised, for the arms to rest on.The hinges seem to work well,so we will see how they work.Where's a good place to get a set of catch pins for the arms? Thanks

bumper

The bumper is mounted.I guess I didnt notice how much farther the rear cross brace stuck out than the frame rails,so I extended the bumper out another 1 1/2" and kept the cross member. The hinges are pretty ghetto, but an easy fix, just need to drill holes through arms and bumper for a spindle.Put the tire on the pass. side to even out the cruiser lean a little, hopefully. Also got the 55 a friend.A 1985 60 will be going to our Idaho cabin instead of the 55.I just couldnt part the 55.

rear bumper

Have not had a lot of time for the 55 lately, but I managed to get the tire mounted.2" receiver in the center and will add one to the other side for a basket or ?Also decided to run 1/2" sleeve down the back to accept bolts to lock it shut, one on each arm.Nut on the bottom.Tighten everything down and it is rock solid. Will take a little more effort to open tailgate, but Id rather have no movement.Didnt help the lean, and its buggin the s*** out of me,so I guess I will swap leafs to see if it helps.Happy Holidays

It's been a few weeks nothing new and exciting to share? pigtown is driveable just makes a little engine noise here and there that I don't like. I drove it to work today and it was so nice to have it out! Once new job starts the commute is 78 miles. definitely won't be driving the pig to work then.
