I don't think the owner is willing to part his out. But, the good news is that I'm definitely taking the "OEM look" approach as I clean it up - even though it might eventually sit a little taller!

2F swap

Well i wanted a diesel, but money is tight and so is time.So a 2F and 4 spd. will be going in the 55.Went for a long drive today, and as relaxing as the F/3spd is,its time for a change.Any suggestions with this swap?I'm wondering about motor mounts and TC support changes if any.I'll be installing a '77 2F.Should I keep my 3 spd.TC and mount it to the 4 spd.tranny? Thanks

2F 3 or 4spd ???

Best bet is do an honest assesment of how you really expect to use Hagish. How much road, how much true trail. What tires you think you will settle on. With 411s she's never gonna be a thrifty. If you keep the 3spd transfer case then top speed will be about the same for the 3 and 4 speeds and RPMs fuel economy all the same. Driveability a little easier but you'll probably end up pulling away most of the time on the street in 2nd. The transfer case is pretty bullet proof - the best upgrade would be the H55F 5 speed, but its big bucks - but with gas going over $4 and maybe to $5, if you will be doing any miles it will pay for itself on fuel and wear and tear. May want to consider disc brakes too - trail and road gettin her all whao'd up is important and the 60 brake swap is pretty easy. easier than the PS deal.

Great thread buddy doing a terrific job dont stop!

If you do decide to do a 2F swap on your 71, I would be very interested in your F, mainly for spare parts on mine. Plus I'm sure it would help fund your build.

Let me know what you decide to do!

Thanks guys,I've already done PS and disc brake conversion.I dont drive the 55 all that much, but when I do,I realize why I love it soo much.I can deal with the F motor, but the 3 spd is not my favorite.I bought 2 40's,1 complete and 1 for parts w/ a good motor.Seems like a good time for the swap.A little more umph and 1 more gear would be nice. Thanks IPPR

Sounds like it will be an interesting adjustment, going from a 5 speed highway-capable vehicle to a (part time use) 3 speed slowpoke. Guess I shouldn't plan on taking it on any cross-country trips any time soon!

Let me get this straight sir. You are going to take a straight 6 out and put another straight 6 back in? I think you're silly. I wouldn't say I'm f motor hater just that if it runs good then run it til it dies then put something in that has decent power. But I would never ever put a f into something. Thats a lot of work to do and still have a very heavy engine that makes dismal power and dismal mileage. just my 2 pennies. Don't hate. appreciate:p

Alright, you da masta. Its quick and easy thats all.Wow,that new job is makin you grouchy-er.But It's good to hear your still alive. How's Pigtown.Ready for moab?:flipoff2:

Are you planning on going to moab? I'm no masta. I am but a young grasshopper learner. Pigtown needs tires.

Brought the 55 home. It's going to a small car show for the Boy Scouts on Saturday.I have missed driving her.Too bad she will go right back to storage after the show.I have run out of room for the toys.Time for a new garage!Where are all the 55 builds!:)

Where are all the 55 builds? I'm guessing lost. Out of money? Need tires? My silly little piggy has all those problems.

I have a 71 project I'm picking up in mere days. Will be a little while before I have anything interesting to post about it, but intend to soon. I'll start with picking her up and carrying her home. Stay tuned.........

Can someone please give Jake a set of 37's?

Whoa there sir! First off if somebody really gave me tires I wouldn't know what to do. Secondly it would be a shame for someone to give me tires that are too small. How's things with you? I should be buying a subaru 3.3 engine for the Westy soon. After that maybe I can try to buy some tires.....

hey matt! you going on the relic run?

I did see that it was coming up.I would like to go,if work permits. You?

Jake, does your parts 55 have the rear driveshaft?I need one to shorten for the 40

you better register for it then! legit registration closed june 1st. yes it does have the rear shaft still.
