I thought that I might start posting my progress since build is starting to look better. I started out with a 71' frame and tub that someone else started to build. They put a 2f, 4 speed tranny, and transfer case from a 78'. All of the body work was done by my good freind. He is starting to learn body work and he got this one pretty much smooth and primed for me.

It came with the rear SO'ed and in the front they put on like 4" longer shackles. Needless to say, the front got redone. I started a post showing my front axle build over in "hardcore". You can check it out here: https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=110827

Here's a picture of the axle finished. It just lacks the draglink. I can not put it on until I get some 1" wheel spacers. The Tundra rims are about 4.5" of backspacing and the tire hits the draglink, but nothing else.

did you go with the 1" spacers?

With the tundra wheels I had to use spacers. I bought 1.25 aluminum spacers. They are still on the rig, but now I run wheels with custom backspacing- 3 1/8". With the height of the rig, I wanted a wider track for stability. On a SUA rig, the wheels would have been perfect with spacers.

very nice, i love axle up builds. Enjoy her, i finally just finished my SOA and man it is a big diffrence in handling. I still have to re weld the front perches, caster is way off and she wanders bad.

looks real good man, hope to see it soon.

71

nice job I have a 71 also and the first thing I did was the lift and tires too. Now the tub is coming off.

I am curious about the roll bar is that aftermarket? And the seats are they a later model seat? I have the 3/4 bench style and am wondering if I can fit buckets like yours

Been lurking your thread for a while...Looks good! Nice paint job too! Hopefully we'll meet at a UC/LC event sometime soon.

71

good to see another 71, the best year of course

yours is very different than mine but nice

I'm getting ready to do the scout steering on mine --wish me luck!

Are those seat mounts original--getting ready to do seats as well!

I posted in your seat thread, but they are stock. Just not to a 71'. They are stock mounts from a 78' that had bucket seats. I am going to be installing some leather Volvo S60 seats in it soon.

Not quite, still need to make seat brackets and now I have to rebuild my tranny. Should be done in about 4 weeks. I'll post an update in a week or so.

lookin good

Back again for another look. Any pics of the alternator mounting. I am going with ps on my 71 soon and need to remount the alt to the other side. Mine is now a 2f/4spd also

I usually only like the stock wheels but yours look pretty good even if they do modern it up a bit they seem to be "right" looking. I like the tires a lot too

Nice Build:steer::steer:

Thanks, the wheels will be painted stock gray to give them a more vintage look. Doing that now.

Here is the place that I bought my alt. bracket from.
UNIVERSAL ALTERNATOR ADAPTER BRACKETS

I used part #A285 with a 12Si alt. I can get you the alt. part number if you need it. It was a Delco unit from like an 84 Camaro with 94 amp output.
