I picked up a 71' hardtop from Chip B, thanks bud, and I am going to restore it for winter driving. I have a top from a 78' but the trouble to make it work isn't worth it. I wanted to keep my rear half doors, and I like the older style front doors better. The fiberglass is cracked, so I am going to use the top from the 78' with the sides and hatch from the 71'. I do not have any front doors, so I will be on the lookout for some. The glass is all there, so I will be removing them and replacing the seals once everything is painted.

Here is some pictures of it now. Very soon it will be rolling. But before I can drive it there is still many parts left to buy. I need a set of two piece headers, my carb rebuilt, a couple of brake lines, driveshafts, paint, rhino lined interior, and a full cage. Maybe it will be ready next summer. 'fingers crossed':)

I haven't seen any pics with a hard top. Your 78 sides will fit your 71 fine. Check out https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-seri...ling-81-hardtop-onto-my-74-keeping-hatch.html if you're still working on it.

Didn't use the hardtop as it was going to be too much work to restore. Decided to keep it topless until I found this nice STC top to put on.

Now I just need to track down a rear heater from a 60 or 4runner for some heat in the cab. Needed to remove the fan for the battery mount, so now I need an "all in one" unit to mount under the glove box.

Loaded the rig up and brought her down to Myrtle Beach to get the tires switched out and install my rear tire carrier/bumper. We got a bit of snow unexpectedly.:grinpimp:

Probably because she is a trailer queen as of right now. Gotta get tags on her. Send me a PM with your contact info and we can get together sometime. I stay near Irmo.

After the snow thawed, I got a lot of work done on her this week. First thing was to adjust the carb. starter, and timing. She runs awesome now. It's amazing what a difference proper timing does to an engine.:grinpimp:

I also installed the 37" Rockers finally, and I am very pleased with them. Currently at 10 psi for street and will air down to about 4 psi on the trail. They are pretty stiff.

Also finally finished my rear bumper and got the spare tire carrier installed. Now jsut to find me a spare.

It's been a slow week. People have been busy.:flipoff2:

That rear bumper looks BEEFY!

I have to say, it does look an awful lot like the vehicle formerly made by Willys :P

Yeah, well so does all you guys gay ass rigs with factory white hardtop. You think Toyota was the first ones to put a white hardtop on a 4x4 vehicle.

:flipoff2: I'm heading to Pirate you posers.

Who said anything about a hard top?! I am afraid that if you head to pirate they will call you out for not having one ton dana 60's and an atlas... They will call YOU the poser... Best pull up your big boy pants and stay here on mud...

You purists were calling my rig a Jeep. I was simply stating that you elitest with your factory hardtops are simply driving rigs with Jeep engineering as well. Sorry, I've had it. First someone comes in my thread and calls me trailer trash a while back, now I get multiple comments about my rig being a Jeep.

Try fitting a 37" or larger tire a non center mounted tire carrier, and last I checked no one is making wider flares to cover a wider track on an FJ that looked worth a damn.

Hell you guys drive 30+ year old rigs and still talk about how to install a damn radio. Pussies.:flipoff2:

Hey Cordarin, I found your rig. Funny how your rig looks more like a Jeep than mine.:lol::lol:
