I have started my build for my front axle on my 40 finally. I am just waiting on some small parts from C-Dan to put all together. Here are some pictures of the tear down so far.

I have a question about the studs on my hubs. It looks as if one of my hubs came with two studs already in it and the other hub is missing them. Is this something that I could propably get from Dan or do I use my own metal dowel pins from somewhere else?

I am putting on all new vented rotors, v6 calipers, Longs set, Lukes arms, ARP studs (hub and knuckle), all on a SOA cut/turn housing with an Aussie locker.

If I have time during the build I will keep this updated.

Thanks
Jeremy

Sounds like a plan, Are you using the Large (later) Pattern knuckles?

Those are the small pattern '76-'78 knuckles. Good luck with those.... What size tires you running? Fine spline pinion? Have you thought about having a removeable front diff cover?

are the different "pattern" knuckles refering to the steering arm bolt pattern?

Yep..

Large on the left, Small on the right..

Larger is about 1/2" wider front to back, and larger studs..

i dont think they make the ARP Studs for the small pattern,, upgrade time :grinpimp:

but my 1985 fj60 steering arms fit my 1976 knuckle hmm

Something has been changed....

did the large knuckle pattern come exclusively with vented rotors? because they're solid rotors on my knuckles.

as far as i can tell there is no reason the knuckles have ever been off

 What are you guys talking about? I thought I had the largest available pattern knuckles you could get, until the 6 bolts come out. I have knuckles from a 79-85 mini-truck.

I also ordered arp studs and have already put them in. My arms which came from Lukes 4x4 were also supposed to be the larger pattern arms and they fit fine. I'll post updates tomorrow. Am I missing something?

Sorry LC-Hamma I didn't notice your question until now. I am running these tires.

13x38x16 TSL's

What would be the benefit of having a removable diff cover on the front? There are no c-clips to have to remove. Is it just so you can peak inside and see whats going on without having to tear down the knuckles? I plan on repacking and inspecting my knuckles once a year, so I might not be in any rush to do that mod.

They should be coarse spline 4.10's, I haven't verified if they are not fine spline yet. I think you just check the pinion nut size. I'll check tomorrow.

you should be good to go, all minitrucks are large pattern..

bad_religion_au - the knuckles are an easy swap, you can put them on older axles.. so you could have solid or sloted rotors, on any Cruiser axle w/ Birfs..

sounds like a sweet buildup. Look forward to watching it

Thanks Isotel, for a minute I was worried. I thought I did all this research on here and stock piled parts for 9 months just to find out I bought all the wrong stuff.

These parts look a lot stronger than all the drum crap that I took off. I still can't get over the size of the driveshafts on these things. Heeps would kill for shafts like these from the factory.

thats my point. i have 76 knuckles that take the large pattern arm.

My large pattern knuckles came with solid rotors. I think all mini-truck rotors came with solid. I simply bought vented rotors that came on later landcruisers, I think 75' to 80', and then bought new large piston Toyota V6 truck loaded calipers. The key is the calipers, you have to replace these if you go with vented rotors. You can use landcruiser calipers that originally came with the vented rotors, but since I am running 38's I wanted the best.

wierd, but i'm thankful made my swap to 60 schit easier.

i had the longer fine spline birfs, the longer lockouts, and the large pattern steering arm

are you sure pickup knuckle were not swappred before? 76 Cruiser is the small patter vented rotor. pick ups came solid rotor.

You already had a minitruck swap..

He's in Oz though, was the change over earlier there?
