The funny thing about the 70 series is how they keep 90% the same, but keep changing the nose. Some look so odd I think; like two different vehicles put together.

Anyhow, this latest nose reminds me a lot of the mid 80's Bundera or Landcruiser II as they called it (light duty).

The front looks 2024 ( modern retro ), the back looks 1985. It does look abit ridiculous sometimes, but I still prefer it over the 2007-2023 which looked like a knockoff LC100 front end.
it is a shame to see they discontinued the 1VD so soon after its introduction in the GCC...it was only introduced in our market starting MY2017 so to see it being discontinued for MY2024 seems so soon.

I think Australia might be the only market to get it now? Not sure if SA will still get it but it seems like that engines days are numbered..

As I understand 1VD and 1GR stay with a manual box. The new diesel is for auto transmission only. That means 3 engines are available from 2024

The 1VD has been discontinued from the GCC as of MY2024.
GCC will be available with 2 engines
the new engine 1GD auto only
1GR auto or manual

I know Australia will still get the 1VD as a manual only along with the new 1GD diesel (auto only). Not sure what other market will still get the 1VD other than Australia but I know the 1VD is gone from the GCC for MY2024.

It is very interesting. Are you sure about 1GR auto? Any confirmation? First time I ever heard

Yes, I am sure. The spare part info is already available on the tech websites and the GCC fuel economy labels also confirm it.

edit: here is a video
notice the v6 badge on the rear, which means is the 1GR engine.

I can't seem to find the fuel economy labels.
Any insights on (formal) differences in fuel economy between MTM GRJ7 and ATM GRJ7 ?
I wonder what the ATM could possibly do to lower consumption?

So some 79s are arriving with one petrol tank
Not sure if it's 90l or 130 but one petrol tank regardless...
You can tell with the floor mounted spare

However I have seen other 2024 79s that have dual tanks....

Like this one
With the spare mounted on the back.

interesting to see the variation.

I personally wouldn't want to own a brand new 79 without dual tanks or lockers. Those two would be must have options for me.

Options be damned, I just want one !!! 😎

So just incase you all didn't know
Every gcc country gets its own specs (because even though they are all GCC spec) each country has a different distributor that orders different options etc

So far it seems the best specs for the 2024 LC79 in gcc are saudi

Two tanks + fridge + lockers + winch + large screen + led Lights and all the goodies

Here is a heavy duty GRJ79 from Oman
No idea why it is single tank only.
I don't recall gcc having single tank 79s in over 20 years so I don't understand why they decided to bring that back?
The v6 4.0 is very thirsty...having a single tank only is not enough for a vehicle like the 79 that will be used in the deserts and for long distance trips.
It might be OK for the diesel that has better range.

Personally
My must have options for an LC79 are two tanks and lockers. Having the winch is nice too.

I would prefer the petrol engine over the diesel as well.

If it's a vehicle that only I would drive I would opt for a manual - if it is a vehicle that will be a farm/camping trip vehicle driven by many people then for sure automatic. Nothing worse than people who can't drive manual ruining the clutch.

All those features make me cry (lane departure. auto-start/stop. collision alert, etc.). I think I speak for many on the forum when I say I love the 70-series for its simplicity.

What on earth is going on with those blanked out rear tail-lights?! Is there any logic for them?
