Maybe I am ignorant to diesel engines because I don't have alot of experience with them.
I would still pick the 1GR out of all the above.

Insanely reliable
Fuel is cheap here
Funner in the sand dunes (though I am hearing really good things about the 2.8 performance)
I would gonna keep it stock anyway for my use and just change the tires to a very slightly larger than stock size.

The 3.3 diesel in the 300 series is beautiful though.
That thing pulls.

That rear cargo mat is handy to have. A lot of different versions seem to be floating out there.

Hello,

It is interesting how important low rpm power output was for them during the design phase. Heat transfer issues seem to have been dealt with carefully.

It is interesting that the 1GD engine with an automatic transmission can produce as much low rpm power as a 1VD with a manual transmission.

It is amusing how the Prado is still a Light Duty Land Cruiser in the lineage.

There is marketing and then there is the technical lineage.

TNGA-F modular structure throws a big wrench into things, but the 7x series is still a distinct vehicle engineering standard. We are lucky that it is.

It will most likely change at the next generation (if there is one)….

Well, after reading this whole thread. I’m just gonna have to get at getting that
13BT into my FJ40. Besides, I remember back in ‘87 people hated the 60 series.
Too Huge, gigantic SUV - useless…..LOL. Best truck now I’ve ever owned.
Always funny looking back.

I'm talking from a local perspective.

Upon launch the 200 series was ridiculed tor being ugly - big and the end of the Land Cruiser.
Today the 5.7 200 has legend status here, many people refer to it as the last real land cruiser...but wait wasn't that the 100? Or the 80....you get the cycle.

Perspective...uh ya.
Exactly
The most capable vehicle I ever owned is not my 2013 GRJ79.
It is infact my triple locked 2023 GRJ300.
That thing can make any terrain feel like it's a paved road.

My 79 doesn't have lockers...it is mainly only used as a farm vehicle/camping
gear carrying Vehicle so it wasn't a deal breaker for this specific case but ofcourse I wish it did have them...for bragging rights.
