Finally troopy is moving by its own power. Picked up from @orangefj45. The crew there is fantastic. Towed it to my shop (we actually build very high end joysticks for the military drones) and spent the day today modifying the prototype grill that @kelly saad so it will fit with the intercooler. I’ll change the front screen to the small hexagons like my 80. I still need to adjust the hood and then take it all apart and install the new fenders that are being painted. Bumpers curtesy of Luke 4x4labs.

What size inter cooler is that? Definitely would like to air to air inter cool mine but the 13bt is pretty convoluted under the hood

I need to measure it. It’s the biggest one I can fit, and had to modify it. I can dig and see.

I’m in Flagstaff picking up a set of new OEM front fenders courtesy of @joekatana and paint by @kelly saad. The original ones were totally warped and rusted so after finishing they dont perfectly fit the body. Also there were painted first with leftover paint from my 80 series and the color does not match.

Ofer --- I am sure this is jumping the gun, but what are your electrical plans for this build?

I have been pondering options to power a fridge in the back of my 80, but I can't seem to make a decision. Since you apparently build aviation-quality inceptors as a side hustle you must have put some serious thought into the matter.

Jared hi,

I plan to build in a National Luna fridge in the back passenger side. We come from rafting when you open the fridge only 2-3 times a day to pull out what you need. I always travel with my wife so she stays inside and pulls the ingredients for the lunch/dinner. Only coffee for breakfast which I serve to her in bed. I don't like this heavy long drawers that take real estate, expensive and heavy and used maybe once a day. It will be a similar setup as our 80 which we spent in it 6-7 months/100K miles in the last 6 years and really tuned it for our needs.

Electrical panel will be behind passenger seat for power distribution. Still debating for LiPo or AGM. If we go LiPo I'll use induction with a small gas stove for backup.

Cheers mate

Aluminum panels/cards courtesy of @orikawa. Front doors not shown. Thank you Spencer. You are a true craftsman. All be powder coated gray as the dash.

I put a Blue Sea outlet in our 80 to power our fridge when we take it. Our 80 isn't built out, but we do use it to camp and take the fridge sometimes.

Thanks for the reply. I really like your philosophical approach to this. Simple and straightforward.

What are you planning on using to separate and charge the secondary battery? Looking at your 80 blog, it seems like you are using Renogy charger. But maybe that is only for solar? I don't recall seeing the hookup/wiring to the secondary battery in your blog.

I was originally thinking I would just do Blue Sea Battery Switch combiner (7622 ML-ACR) which seems to be the reliable if old fashioned approach. And makes it easy to keep the secondary battery under the hood.

But now it seems like using one of the fancy DC-to-DC chargers has some advantages, especially if I want to add some solar some day. Something like the Renogy RBC 2125-- which I may have seen you mention before.

Finally, are you going to put that LiPo or AGM secondary battery under the hood? It seems easier to put it under the hood, but I don't know if those fancy electronics in the chargers like to be under the hood.

Thanks again

Hey Jared,

I used an insulator in my 80 with a circuit breaker to that alternator but I’m planning a 250 A relay instead that closes with the ignition key. I like simple things that will not break.

I like the Renogy DCDC but never used it. It’s compact and good specs. I plan to put it inside the car in the rear wheel well.

Interesting. I look forward to seeing the details of how you do this.

I like your alluminium panels , but would paint them same as the car body .
Certainly not grey !
Just my 2 cents

All the interior is grey. The metal cabinets in the back will be powder coated the same color. All the leather is grey. Similar to my 80.

Finally after 3 long years it hit the road with the FT engine. There is still a lot of work to be done on the interior and exterior, but its moving on it's own and very gracefully.

Finally got 8 miles on the rig. All instruments working including the 80 series speedometer. It drives fantastic. Now the fun begins on the small details.

So does this mean you will make the Expo?
NO. It has 15 miles on it. I would like to put a few hundred miles before taking a 750 miles (each way) trip across the Mojave. Promise next year and it should be fully rigged and tested.

By the way, I have to say it again the Terrain Tamer suspension is incredible. I feel that it's almost better than the 80 with adjustable ICONs. Thanks @orangefj45 for convincing me to choose this!
