Pistons are still available from Toyota for the later 2F engines (flat top). Earlier domed-top pistons are discontinued from Toyota.

Available piston sizes: Standard size, .50mm overbore, 1.00mm overbore, and 1.5mm overbore.

Just sourced a set of 1.5mm over for a client recently. Took about 2 weeks to procure. Direct-ship from Japan from the manufacturer, ART.

In general figures, and assuming the block didn't need to be bored and no cam/lifters, what would it cost in parts to rebuild a 2F short block? (mains, rods, gaskets, seals, and whatever else I'm missing)

I've got the head off mine right now, and it sure looks like it'd be simple to pull the block out and complete the rebuild.......

You are looking at about $1000 on the low end (maybe even less) and $5000 on the upper end.

Actually that motor is out of an 81 FJ40. Bought it hoping if was nice but it's my core for the rebuild. That way I can keep 60 running until I collect all parts for swap

Keep us updated. JCHS already rebuilt my head, but since it's not back on yet, the urge to go ahead and pull/rebuild the bottom end "while I'm there" is growing day by day!

I purchased two 2 Fs from a guy in the Midwest. $1200 shipped via Fastenal (kicking myself for not buying DNPs motor just like he's kicking himself for not keeping it)

I was hoping the 4 speed and transfer from the 77 would drop in the 74 but both are frozen.

Hopefully they look better inside than outside.

Price range for a rebuild is $3000-4000 depending on parts needed.

Plans now are to move all my good engine parts from my motor after I get the Motor back

Basically make mine like Cam wished his still was......I'll document it all with prices and info once I start it all.
