My opinion, find a good core to rebuild and stick with the 2F for now. 2F may not be the latest and greatest but it is adequate and it is the heart of the FJ60. A good rebuild could last >> 200k miles.

My FJ60 is set up with a rebuilt 2F that now has ca. 200k on it, fresh JimC'd carb, recurved dizzy, proper desmog, 3FE exhaust manifolds, H55F, 4.11s, 33x10.5 BFG AT, wind drag add-ons (70 series mirrors, ARB bumper, home made roof rack), cargo drawers with a bunch of junk, in all weighs ca. 5500 lbs.

I can cruise the interstate at 70mph, tach sits at 2500, and still manage 13 mpg, 14+ if I run slower.

I sourced a good core for rebuilding to replace the current 2F when that time comes but also watching non-OEM engine threads because the days of the 2F are limited because of Toyota's dropping support of the engine. Until then I'm planning on sticking with the 2F because I know this this engine, it's simple, and stock.

This week I did ca. 500 miles in the FJ60, next week will be ca. 700, the week after that ??. Point is I drive this FJ60 alot and find the 2F continues to get the job done.

I agree. It's a great motor.

Adding 200 hp to this platform puts you with plenty of power in a truck that's still leans in turns and makes you nervous when stopping from speed.

A nicely rebuilt 2F w/H55 and TBI is a pretty durn sweet combo.

I know you are happy with your end result but the snowball from horsepower to wider axles and bigger brakes is inevitable if you really use it hard. That's what I want to avoid

2FE and h55f?

3F-E parts for the EFI system are all discontinued.

Well I guess I bettwe start reading up on LS swaps for when either one of mine takes a dump... :(

No.

3F-E parts for the EFI system are all discontinued.

That would be a bad call IMO.

Not long ago I was planning a 2FE. Bought a stock FJ62 to have all parts available for the swap but later decided to stick with the 2F. FJ62 became a parts rig for the 3FE in my '85 FJ60.

I would do the TBI all the Cottonland dudes use.

Good to know. I liked the idea of the longer stroke of the 2F w the 3FE but if discontinued that makes sense.

Funny, I was in NC over the weekend seeing my Dad who is a huge old Ford guy and he was selling 1932 hood latches on eBay as Ford was still repopping in the 1960's bc they go for more money than contemporary repops. Apparently it was the last generation of the Ford repops for 1932

Are pistons available for 2F's at this time? Aftermarket parts?

Pistons are still available from Toyota for the later 2F engines (flat top). Earlier domed-top pistons are discontinued from Toyota.

Available piston sizes: Standard size, .50mm overbore, 1.00mm overbore, and 1.5mm overbore.

Just sourced a set of 1.5mm over for a client recently. Took about 2 weeks to procure. Direct-ship from Japan from the manufacturer, ART.

:)
