Made some more progress.

Ordered fj40 tail lights that should tuck up nicely under the corners of the bed. I'm hoping I can swap connectors from the old fj60 tail lights to the new fj40 tail lights to make them plug and play.

Got the boards cut for the bed and made up some center braces for it. Once the boards are bolted down the whole thing will be pretty stiff.

I'm going to do a couple more gussets and then prime the flatbed frame.

It looks like most people have lost interest in this thread, but for the sake of bringing some closure here are a couple pictures of how it should look in the end. The bed is just sitting on the frame for these. Nothing is welded.

Dude I have gained interest

I haven't forgotten about you! Just waiting on some wheelin' pics....

Progress and wheeling may slow down a bit. I am getting married next weekend and going on a honeymoon and buying a house. Normally things like that would take a back seat to what's really important, but my old lady is really being a stickler about this.

My to do list is (more for myself than anyone else:
- Drill holes to mount boards
- figure out tail light mounts once they show up

- weld in some 2x4 mounts on edges of bed to accept board sides
- finish painting bed frame
- Mount bed frame
- fasten boards

- Wire taillights
- seam seal around body to ensure water-tightness
- Get some sort of silver colored paint/liner over black primer on cab

- Try to paint/finish out interior a bit
- Figure out what to do with headliner
- re-install windows
- Drive? This thing hasn't been driven any distance in over a year so i'm sure some things will come up.
- Install rear locker to make donuts easier.
- Wheel? Maybe. Most likely it will be used for camping, puttering around town, and hauling s*** around. Not tons of wheeling around here and if I decide I need to go wheeling I'll drive the 80...

I dont know if you are serious enough for this: side tracking for marriage, honeymoon, man come on state your priorities, focus .
Buying a house :bang: :flipoff2: if you are going scuba with it might try to relocate the "computer" in the foot wells?

Coming together!! I'm loving mine... the final stretch is the longest. Congrats on the non-cruiser stuff

Getting married and buying a house?
This is the last update we'll get before seeing the unfinished project in the 'mud classifieds...:D

If I had to give up my projects for my wife she wouldn't be my wife.

It's not the wife that usually gets in the way of projects, it's responsibility. I'm just giving you a hard time at any rate. Someone diving into a project like this isn't your average bear. Most people wouldn't have gotten past the cutting stage without getting bored or frustrated. Those are the people that will put s*** on the back burner for years.

Totally agree! That's why this has taken so long in the first place!!! When I get tired of it I let it sit and work on something else.

Congrats on the big day!

You might try Shueys for the headliner. I hear they do a good job and are very reasonable.

Maybe you'll have enough time for a Fall Crawl debut???

My dad has used Shueys for a couple different project and yes they are good!

I thought about a fall crawl debut, but I haven't driven the thing more than two miles in the last year and a half so maybe not.

I'm aiming for a fall colors ride in the GWNF with a couple buddies the same weekend. Much closer to home.

That's pretty awesome. Can't wait to see it finished. I did a tray on my mini truck as the bed was rusted. I am loving it now. There are pics in this thread
Rear tray for my rusty '86 pickup

Some more progress. I drilled the bed for the 2x6s so that is all done and ready to go. I wired up fj40 tail lights using the stock fj60 tail light harness and built some brackets to mount them. Got the bed frame all painted.

I Rigged up a fuel filler neck using the stock filler. I haven't tried to fill the tank yet so I'm not sure how it's going to work. I may have to end up with a different neck mounted in a more verticle position. I forgot to snap pics of the filler, but I will.

I ordered light quartz gray monstaliner which is a decent enough match the the silver. I don't want to mount the bed until I finish painting so I am kind of on hold for now.

After driving the thing for a while I will probably address the rear suspension unless it settles out. I'd like to stretch the wheelbase a bit and lower it down some. Choices are pulling a leaf and flipping the springs or finding some longer springs and relocating mounts. Or just leave it alone.... heh heh.

I think it would look amazing SOA, but I'm really not sure I want all the headache that goes with it.
