No rust isn’t horrible compared to some. It’s right at the point though of where to stop? I’d go further but trying to keep it on a budget. If I was going to replace and do a ton of body work then it’s remove all the glass replace all the seals and then and then and then. So trying to stay ahead of the bad and keep it going. Personally I would have left the rust left the paint and called it good but the wife wins out. We did a photo shoot with anthropology clothing acouple weeks ago with the cruiser and they all tried to talk her into leaving the paint alone also but she’s set on pretty so trying to do it on a budget and make it better than when I started. That's not bad rust at all.![]()
Was thinking I’d just move the license plate into front of the ones in front fender and call it patched. The worst part of painting is prep. The winch was a bit of a Bitch to get off but that’s off everything has came off except one blinker and I’m scared to break the base since you can’t find em so that might just have to get taped aroundTaking those speed holes off will slow it down…
Great to see it getting patched up![]()

That is what I did for my 1969 pig. Bought the 40 lights and ground down the base to fit a pig fender. Works great.@bobm yeah they are the earlier rectangle headlights. I think those bases are for the 75 and up, these are the 70-74 I believe they 68 and 69 are the pig ears? That come from side of the apron I do believe or something like that for years. I thought about trying to make a set of early round blinkers from a 40 fit since I have some but gonna order a set of new 40 blinkers and see if I can trim down the bases and make it all work.
They are ordered. I was able to save the bases I cut the nut off below and cut they wiring but ordered the new 40 ones and figured I’d swap out the bases if I didn’t like the way they ground down either way when I’m done I’ll have some parts left over. That is what I did for my 1969 pig. Sounds good We will be in dc a few days, my wife’s sister is there. Not sure exactly where but dc area. Then we will take the train to NYC to take my oldest to a broadway show which was a Xmas present then back and continue on the way.Sounds like an epic trip. I'm an hour or so west of DC and 23 miles east of Shenandoah NP, stop by and say hello.
