Anyone have any firsthand recommendations on hotels in Ouray?

Wife is probably making the trip with me this year, and she's no camper...

We stayed at Twin Peaks when we arrived at Ouray prior to the event so we could acclimate for a couple days. We then camped at the event and stayed at the Victorian Inn post-event to regroup and clean up before heading out to Mesa Verde, ABQ etc.

Twin Peaks has a nice breakfast. It also has a nice patio dining area with a great view of the San Juans and plenty of heaters on the Patio. Heated pool was not so heated by a southerner's standards. ;) Grounds were very well maintained.

Victorian Inn's ownership is very off-roader friendly. They knew Jonathan by name and were very welcoming. Laundromat was smaller but more available. The one at Twin Peaks was always hammered. All in all if I had to pick one of the two this is the route I would go and then perhaps walk up to Twin Peaks for dinner some.

ETA: Sucks about g-Drive. Looks like a lot of it is back on there now though?

97% of the way there!

Outside of hotels/motels in Ouray, anyone have good recommendations for something cool in Denver?

We're thinking about staying there Wednesday night, or perhaps Sunday night in order to recharge before the trek home.

My PC is sucking wind the morning syncing up ~2200 photos after the resto.

Thanks for putting it back together I know what a pain that can be. If anything comes up missing I have an offline backup that should be complete.

It wasn't me (I discovered it and alerted DJWUZJ) but I am sure it was an accident.

I got the notice that the folder had been adjusted. Accidents happen and it looks like everything can be replaced. Everyone just needs to be careful not to accidentally delete anything.

FYI - If you download google drive on your PC, any changes you make to the shared folders on your PC are automatically reflected in the cloud since it syncs. You'd need to unsync your drive if you want to remove anything from your PC.

This is the case that happened here, so again totally accidental in nature.

For anyone that hasn't uploaded, browsed, or downloaded yet, feel free... the best way to capture great shots of you in your own truck!

I am committed to another event in Ouray a few weeks pior....;)

Having this on a weekend, really makes it a possibility for me.. I am putting this on the calendar as a do not miss...

^It will be great if you can make t up Chris. I would recommend to anyone just making a prolonged vacation of it. Come to the FJ Summit July 16-20 and stay for HIH on the 1st-3rd. ;) That would be a great time!

Hey experienced HIH folks, we are tentatively planning to head south for the event, but I am wondering if my Hundy is up to it. Running stock with the exception of removed running boards (no sliders yet) and tires are 275/70/R16s Goodyear AT Adventures with Kevlar. Are the trails going to eat my lunch? Thoughts?

You will have a great time! Poughkeepsie Gulch is probably the only run you'll want to avoid. There are multiple runs each day with Trail Leaders who are not only familiar with the trails, but experienced with the 100 Series in all forms. We will have trail descriptions that will help you decide what you're comfortable taking your vehicle on. Hope to see you there!

I'm in. Only big trip of the year for me.

Im very interested, thought the drive would have been alot further. If I can grab the days off im in for sure.

Awesome! Thanks! so if I can get the :princess: convinced we're in. The boys (11 and 14) have seen the vids and pics and are definitely wanting in... :)

Will there be any different trails this year? Don't get me wrong, I love the scenery but I have a feeling there is more exploring to do on some new trails?

I really want and need to come to one of these events out west but it's about 30 hours of driving each way from VA so I'm trying to figure out realistically how many days of driving out and back I'd need to make it happen. I've done multiple snowboarding trips to CO but I've never had my Cruiser out there with me. Unless I switch up drivers and try to power through I'm guessing 3 days of travel there and 3 days to get back...

Also, from those who've been to both - if you had to pick one would you go HITH in CO or Cruise Moab, Utah?

Team Virginia caravans all the way out here. Hook up with them to make the drive.

As far as Cruise Moab or HIH, two totally different events and locations. CM is very large. 175 registered vehicles with probably 50-100 more in attendance. It's also a TLCA sanctioned event. Everything from buggies to stock 200s. Since Rising Sun puts on this great event, I am impartial to it from a club standpoint. I love everything about it. Moab is like no other place on Earth. But the sheer number of people is almost overwhelming.

HIH is more like a gathering of friends than a huge event. Everything we do is centered around the 100 Series. Over the last few years Jonathan, Chris, Josh and I have become close friends. We know each others families and we do things outside of 4x4ing together. That's how camp at HIHs feels. Camping with friends and meeting folks whom you've spoken to 100 times on MUD is a great feeling. Putting faces with forum names, seeing 100s in person that you've only seen pictures of..... It's really very cool. By day 2, you know everyone's real name. All the kids are running around camp together with their new friends, wives/gf's are talking about anything other than Land Cruisers and when you look around.... all you see are 100 Series! Plus, the San Juan Mountains are maybe the most beautiful place in the US. Even if you've been snowboarding all over Colorado, you've never seen anything like this.

The 4 HIH Directors and their families are staying together in Moab for CM 2014. If it wasn't for HIHs, we may not be that close knit of a group. It's gatherings like HIH that make lifelong friends. Cruise Moab is a fantastic event, but it's too big for that kind of thing. In Moab, you might meet the guy camping to your left and to your right and that's it. By the end of HIH, you'll have 30 new friends.

^^This.

I came from Louisiana, 20 hours or so, and met up with BamaBrock along the way who had 5-6 more hours than that. And both of our trips paled in comparison to the GA, KY, and VA guys.

30 hours? No problem. It's all worth it.

I did ~4,700 round trip and it was well worth the time. I have been out west before, but never explored. The event was incredible. You can't put a price tag on this trip.
