Tried to call but operator said the call cant be completed as dialed. Number right?

Thanks.

Nope fat fingered it

901-289-0880. I corrected it in original post also.

Turned it off then wouldn't start. 12.6 volts is enough? Won't turn starter over.

Had not run it more than 15 mins and pulled over turned off and would not start

I am not sure why 12.6 volts wont turn over starter but it didn't. The tow truck boosted me right off.
If a starter is going bad can it require more battery volts then normal?

I am parking it and going to the lake. Thanks for the help.

I'm pretty sure Shush recently installed that gear reduction starter, but it could still be a bad ballast. The wire going from the battery to starter could also be bad so the full 12 volts don't get to the starter and therefore the ballast doesn't allow the starter to turn over. You could try replacing the wire. Has the battery been load tested? When you were stranded before does the starter normally try to turn over or is this typical. I believe your 62 have the same starter, but it might just be the 60s. If it is the same, swap them and see if you still have problems. It is very simple to do.

Ok, remember I said the name Georg. Carry on...

Correct. The same gear reduction starter should work in your 40, 60, and 62.

Its a new starter.... My vote is wiring. I found some weird places with partial connection or just unconnected stuff I zipped tied out of the way. Its a rats nest unfortunately. I'd start following wiring from one source to terminus and recheck grounds before trying different starters.

Who does the brain trust at Cottonland recommend for a computer / wiring harness for 5.3 conversion in a 40? I have the original comp/harness for the engine

The Famous Georg recommended Troy at Howell Engine Development...

I had a similar issue with my 40. I had put 3 starters in it from orielly and finally put one in from Napa and haven't had a problem since. I also run a V8 so the problem could be totally different. I put new ignition switch in and put a push button that went straight to starter. Have you tried jumping the solenoid when it will not crank? My .02

There are 2 schools of thoughts on the harness

1) Send your stock harness to a person like Jim's or Howell and get them to cut it down and just have what you need

2) Get a new harness with just what you need.

Both options I have used, but option 2 is what I liked the best. Takes out some possibility for human error.

Howell is great. They will "flash" your computer as well.
