The speedo cable can be hella tight and hold it in place and there are a few metal tabs, 2 top, 2 bottom if memory serves...... Alot of guys cut these off to reinstall.

Two tabs along the bottom that sit behind the dash Sheetmetal and the speedo cable and wire harness.

Thanks again. ALL THE WAY forward was he trick. I think I can recrimp the faceplate and be good to go. Wiring removal almost done now.......

If your talking about 40s heres a thread I bookmarked for the day when I get into mine.
Clusters, Gauges, Speedo & Odo meters

I think its a tab on the bottom as well.
There was a guy on here refurbishing them if you sent in he would paint and clean up and charge 300.00. I keep thinking of doing that but I need to get the rest of my cruiser looking good first.

Also found this one. I am trying to organize my bookmarks so when I can find a spare few minutes to work on the cruiser I dont waste it trying to figure out something haha.

Right now the heat is keeping me from spending any time. I wish Florida had basements like Birmingham. I need the space and it helps keep cool.

FJ40 instrument cluster removal

Fixing the stuck odometer (with pics)

New thread title for Louis...

Don't let removing your gauge cluster become a cluster...

Lou there is a guy on mud selling new decals for the inside plate on the cluster. And I have the orange paint for the needles. That plus a can of flat black and a can of pewter from JTOutfitters will make it look like new. Assuming all gauges work.

cool.....i was told all the gauges and lights worked.....lets hope....

link to decals? not sure mine need it or the orange, but the pewter link could help.....it looks pretty good otherwise...

is that grogan clone #2 talking?

either way...
that is my plan....it's in good shape if you ask me...

Definitely clone 1 as the "original's" time is trumped by red....... Unless clone 2 took a page from Multiplicity and is softly crying in julies arms:doh:o_O

Anyone know for certain what color the factory vinyl seats were in a '76?

Everywhere that sells replacement covers sells gray and black...cannot find a definitive answer on which color my 76 would've come with. The ones i took out were so faded they could've been either color
