I'm on 33's and had the 10% underdrive done by @cruiseroutfit a few months ago and it's been excellent. Didn't raise the RPM's so much that freeway driving is miserable, but is much easier to maintain freeway speeds.

^ this is what I've had a hunch about for a while and it makes perfect sense.“Regearing the diffs is the best place to balance out the driveline torque throughout the whole drivetrain....
Which snap-ring?
Yep I pulled the trigger as well, screaming deal!edit: just went for 4.88 Nitros front and rear @ <$200. Couldn't pass that up!
Front ring/pinonI went to Nitros site but didn’t see info about these being on sale. Where are you guys getting them?
I ordered from justdifferentials.com.I went to Nitros site but didn’t see info about these being on sale. Where are you guys getting them?
I ordered from justdifferentials.com.
But I just checked and it looks like both front and rear 4.88 are out of stock now. I'd imagine you could still order and they would back fill when possible. But a call first would prob be best.
Came across this thread while doing research on this Sumo underdrive set, very helpful. The price for the Sumo Gear 10% underdrive gear set runs $505 from Cruiser TEQ. Labor varies from shop to shop, I would call around and see what the going rate at several different shops in your area are.
Also, I have seen some fellow 80 series owners install their own. One person that comes to mind is @BayArea80, it is not very detailed but gives you an idea if you want tackle it yourself and save you some coin.
I am have talked to him a few times about it and he loves the underdrive gear set.
If you are in fact using 35 inch tires that is a 12% increase over stock. So with the 10% underdrive gears you should be back to the correct speed readings on your speedometer and a better place in the power band as well.
The 10% is based off the gears not the tires. So you might be closer or even over a tad.Came across this thread while doing research on this Sumo underdrive set, very helpful.
Would 34”s put it closer to a 10% increase over stock?
Thanks! Understood that the 10% underdrive is based on the gears, so does that mean that a 10% size increase over stock tires would be the ideal pairing? The 10% is based off the gears not the tires. So you might be closer or even over a tad.
Factory r&p is 4.11. 4.11 * 1.1 = 4.521. closest r&p offering is 4.56.Thanks! Understood that the 10% underdrive is based on the gears, so does that mean that a 10% size increase over stock tires would be the ideal pairing?
Thanks. I’m referring to a 2000 LC 100 series, so the factory r&p is 4.30, so at 4.73 I’d be in between the 4.56 & 4.88.Factory r&p is 4.11. 4.11 * 1.1 = 4.521. closest r&p offering is 4.56.
Now web search "tire gear chart" and open any picture that comes up. Use the chart to see your stock rpm and find the tire size/r&p combo that suits you best.
