Randomness...

Just found out that the cruise control switch for a 1994 has the same physical dimensions as my 1992, but the same circuitry as the 1999 that my drivetrain and ECM came from.

I took a gamble after comparing the EWD for each year (it looked the same) and bought one off Ebay. Before wiring it up, I ohmed both switches out (94 and 99) and got the same measurements for on/off, set and resume. So, I wired it up and what do you know?!?!? It worked!

Good item to mention.

Yup. Thats one of those functions they dont change the guts of often. They use the same stalks across many years of many models as well.

Something I ran into when doing my swap. I used a 2002 4x4 Tundra ECM, engine, and harness. I repurposed the front diff wiring (ADD actuator and limit switches) to supply signal to the EVAP system MAP sensor, and canister control valve, since those wires on Tundra come in from the driver's side in a separate harness. This was appealing to me to keep EVAP so that I could do away with the poorly performing 80 series one I had. Also used a couple of the wires in that same area to supply my power to the EFI main circuit which terminates on the driver's side fender in a stock 80. And instead of running a whole single wire to use the EFI main relay power, I used that instead. I will have a 2uz build to link to soon. It is currently swapped, on the road and driving, just haven't taken the time to write it up yet. Oh, and I used the original 80 series trans.

Little details that help make things polished: use an LED light bulb in place of the incandescent that came in the dash of your pre-'90s truck. Before the 90s, 5W bulbs were common and the ECU can't push that much power through its indicator circuits.

Get LED variants of whatever you need to use and your end result will work and look correct.

For you guys that have used earlier 2uz in 80s, what throttle cables have you used?

Early 100s. Works good just have to do a little modification to the support bracket where is passes through the fire wall.
Mind posting a pic? I tried one from a 99 and it's several inches too short.

Best installed photo I have. It fits my set up just perfect had to fill the holes in the bracket and redrill to fit the 80 firewall pass through though will see if I can find pics of that.

And this is why you can't use the FZ fan in your swap:

4runner or LS400/430. The truck fans get into the steering box and brake lines.

I had no clearance issue with my Tundra fan. I switched to an early 100 series fan just because the Tundra fan I had was bad. But there are no clearance issues with mine. I had thought about going the electric LS fan/shroud route, but decided to use mechanical based on other's experience with insufficient/undesired results with the electric setup. Also, the FZ fan doesn't bolt up to the UZ fan bracket anyways. I also used the Tundra throttle cable, and modified the throttle body to accept the transmission throttle cable.

The FZ clutch doesn't bolt up, but the FZ fan bolts to the UZ clutch. Thus the watch out being mentioned.
