Mke, it looks like your making good progress

I see Ford brought back the baby blue for the Mustang. My neighbors 1973 Mustang convertible is the same color.

Too bad it sits there collecting cobwebs.....

yeah, apparently the 70s are back in fashion

not that I mind baby blue, but the rest of 70s design is kinda :meh: - it certainly has no special appeal to someone whose teenage years were spent in the 70s

not to mention what happened to the mustang in 74. I think we all want to forget the Mustang II . (The only thing that car was good for was scavenging the front steering setup for a hot rod)

1969 was the last cool styling of the 'Stang IMO. Your right Claudia, the 70's were when the car designers must of been sent to Siberia or somewhere.....esp by the time the mid 70's came around ;p

69 was the last cool of so many things...Hendrix, BB King, Hector Lavoe.....something about that year.....

Apollo 11 man on the moon

Ted Kennedy took Mary Jo Kopechne swimming at Chappaquiddick

Walmart incorporated

Woodstock

First Concorde flight

First 747 to take service

Whew, just a lot of $h1t happened in 69

although I wouldn't say these were the "best days of my life", I was only 11 then

my favorite

And Catherine Zeta-Jones :bounce::bounce2:

I agree, CZ-J kind of matches my motor...at least in my eyes...that was prolly the best 1969 gift to humanity out of all listed...

However, Claudia's Brian Adams video is a close second...There is nothing more crazy than a good old fashioned apple fight. Brian Adams is kind of the definition of R O C K E R S H A F T....

Me too, 11 and a dork but at least I was young. Now I am just another LandCruiser dork, without CZ-J. and I have a worn out rockershaft

first off...LandCruiser dorks are the only cool people.

second....all rockershafts wear out from over-use...so...good work! :D

Got a little bit done

Thanks to Murf and the gang, some parts came in yesterday. I put the front crank seal in, crank pulley, and squirted black. Around back, I pulled the bell house from the parts cleaning tank and hosed off, wire brush, hose off, paint. I also installed the PLUG, TAPER SCREW into the oil galley after picking up a 12 mm allen wrench. Flywheel also on with new flywheel bolts, just to be sure. Those puppies are spendy, but it beats having to easy out an old one that snaps off. Used a little loctite as well.

Kaitie came out and demanded a picture...she likes fresh paint and old Toyota junk. I hope it sitcks with her. :)

taper plug specs

So thanks to Cruiser Dan, the taper plug for the oil galley (x2) is part number 90344-54003. It is the one black in the picture below. The silver one is a 1/2# NPT plug available at ACE hardware.

There is a subtle difference between NPT thread and Japanese pipe taper (JIS-PT). Although you can make the NPT work in the front of the block, the rear needs the plug blessed by daughters of Samurai.

The taper is slightly different between NPT and JIS-PT as well as the angle of the threads. JIS is 55 degrees and NPT is 60 degrees. You can read all about it on the net if you want more detail.

Also, this PLUG, TAPER SCREW part started in June 1984 on the 2f blocks. Prior to that, you would use a PLUG, EXPANSION 90330-24013, which is a concave type, hammer in plug, approx 24mm in diameter.

good to know - although I sure hope I won't ever have to do this

the water pump grenading was enough excitement for me

did more stuff

the water pump grenading was enough excitement for me

...I'll bet that was a shocker! :)

I took apart the oil cooler unit and cleaned out all the passage ways, gave it a fresh coat of black and put it back together. Also got some fresh manifold studs and air rail plugs. Fuel pump back on. De-gunked the engine brackets. Wire wheel and VHT paint for the manifold set. I'm going to do something different for that EGR pipe. The rubber cap has to go.

more pipes to clean

These oil cooler pipes, especially the bottom one, are super filfth. They've been in the parts tank for a couple days.
