I like using a higher line of the transition color. Otherwise it looks to me, like you are trying to paint on mudflares.

Here is what I am talking about.

What I'm thinking is going very low with the black on the fenders, only coating the flat edge. I want the rest of the body color to include the nice lines running horizontally down the truck.

And if these are real and I can find the company that makes them, I'd love to switch the front end to a 60 series conversion, blacked out like the 2nd photo.

*edit* looks like company could be flex dream?

I looked into this about a year ago. Consensus was this is major modifications. Best to get a front clip off a 60 and make the changes. Basically cut the fenders about 6" in from front edge on both donor 60 and patient 80 and then weld, sculpt to fit.

I thought FOO would look great with this, but the work is too much even for me.

Somebody posted up pics of doing a lessor style one, retaining the 80 side lights. Did not look as nice to me, but still lots of work.

Finally got my rear bumper put back together after adding the swing out. Only took me about 9 months to get it done.

Next up, starting on the front bumper and redoing the sliders as soon as I get back from a 4 day weekend in Topeka.

Yeah I will be there teaching the RIT class, Wednesday thru Sunday.

And thanks! When I get the sliders and bumper done I plan on taking it all apart and spraying it all with bed liner.

My 78 FJ40 Moved for the first time since 1990 under its own power on Monday! Not very far just wanted to make sure the clutch would engage after replacing the clutch master. This weekend will be All fluids New rubber brake lines and hopefully my first drive!

Just one for now. Might take some this weekend.

Got my samples from monstaline today.

Gonna go with the middle combo: lady in red and black.

Like the darker red with grey (pyroclastic) too, but not as much as the true red and black.

The green isn't doing anything for me...

I drilled a hole in my gas cap today. Yep.

After being stranded for about 45 minutes at metal by the foot this morning with a non-starting pickup. I thought maybe the fuel pump was out because it wasn't getting enough fuel to start. Basically, it was a classic vapor lock. The pickup is new to me and all of a sudden, I remembered that I had noticed that it didn't have a factory gas cap. Released pressure and it started on the first try right when I clicked the starter over.

Nice looking truck!

Here is sneak peak of my neighbors 40. His dad used to restore cars and went all out on this one....it will be ridiculous. He put in an Aussie locker in the rear. I asked him why? Since this thing should be sitting in the museum.

He will be joining TLCA soon....
