2015 What have you done to your 4x4 lately?

I have used mine numerous times. No complaints and it functioned accordingly.

One thing to know is that it is slower than a high $ winch. I can't recall the feet per minute on either one but that is a noticeable difference.

I would recommend the badlands to anyone that doesn't want to invest a lot of $ into one of the name brand winches.

@StucknKS have you compared the gearing of the badlands to the name brand winches ? The 12k is something like 260:1 if I remember right, I think others are in the 160:1 range. In any case you guys have helped me make up my mind. I'm gonna pick one of these up Friday morning at the parking lot sale then tear it apart at work and reseal it.

For the money, you won't be disappointed. I have started to wire up in cab controls but have not got them done yet. I should bring the stuff into work the next time I work on a weekend and get them done.

I would recommend looking into some synthetic line. We bought ours in Lawrence at a place called Custom Splice. He was a great guy to work with and he repaired one of my lines when I took it by there recently.

I have a buddy on the department that bought some Amsteel blue from him. He's had it for a few years and hasn't ever spooled it up. I wonder if this stuff has a shelf life ? As for in the cab controls I think that would be pretty slick. One of the vendors on here sells a rocker switch that is labeled just for this purpose.

UV gets to this stuff not as bad as it use to they have coatings. But really it's all about condition looking for ruff stuff and cuts. It's subjective like tires and weather cracking. No real rule. The good news is it will not take an arm or leg off when if it ever does break.

Went ahead and deflared her yesterday (on purpose this time). Still trying to decide whether I'll just monstaline the lower, roof, and hood (thinking of the dark grey or black) or just coat the whole truck. I like the 2 tone look with some gloss in some areas (factory paint) a little better than the look of lining the whole vehicle, but the way I wheel, the smarter choice would probably be to cover the whole truck.

@2fpower whats the word Kelly, are you ever going to get your motor back in ?

Not yet. Buried in tax season and when I have an hour or two, I have been working on wrapping up other projects. Also, have been waiting for it to get warmer as I want to spray raptor in tranny tunnel. Typically do this in the yard, so figured it would be Late march before that would come. Oops.

Ordered 5 free samples of Monstaline colors. Starting to plan on the color combo I want. I'm not a huge fan of coating the whole truck one color (though yours looks really good Sammy). Wanting to do 2 tone with fenders, lower body section, and roof in one darker color and the rest of the middle section and hood another. Ben thinking seriously about a dark red body (Blood bath, or Lady in Red, depending on the samples) with either black or dark grey (pyroclastic) trim and roof. Or possibly sticking with the dark green for the body (Jungle Love) with black or dark grey trim and roof. Gonna play with photo shop a little while I wait for the samples...

With my superior paint skills, here are 2 mockups...If I go red, thinking black for the rest.

Here's a better representation of what I'm thinking

I like using a higher line of the transition color. Otherwise it looks to me, like you are trying to paint on mudflares.

Here is what I am talking about.

I like the look of the 2nd one better (orange 80). I want it to look more like the red is the base truck color, with black accents.

@FZJ80 in KC isn't your truck the factory green color ? Have you thought about ordering an Al's kit then mixing OEM color to it ? I bet it would look pretty clean just redoing the original color with bedliner. Plus, all your jambs would match so it won't look funky to you when your opening and closing doors.

Honestly I hadn't thought about ordering the factory color and mixing with Al's. I did a ton of searches though to try and find pics of someone that has done it. The beauty of my factory green is the pearl effect that makes it almost appear black at times. Otherwise, I'm not real married to the green. I'm worried that the flat effect of the liner would just show always green. Though, if I could get the tint to trul y be as deep and dark as the factory color, I'd be more interested.

I don't know. Part of me just really wants to do something really different that will separate it from other 80's. And I really like that red and black combo.

I did some solid "nerding out" on my phone last night, and came across reevesci's build thread for his 60 (awesome thread BTW), and am pretty sure I want to duplicate his paint job. I just still need to think about which body line to take with the black.
