Got 5 T/A KO2's on order today. BFG is supposed to release the 33x10.5x15 on August 28th. I'm currently first in line at the Tire Rack, so I'm hoping these get here in time for SMORR.

Well, replaced the fan clutch with a blue hub unit from AISIN (FCT-004 if memory serves correctly). Immediately saw a drop in temps last night when I went for a ride. Here's the post I did over in the 80-series-tec:

Initial thoughts... The old clutch spun more freely after the fluid moved around, whereas the blue hub provided good resistance.

Upon startup, the fan noise was significantly more noticeable.

Around town, I drove it provably 10 miles to dinner. The ambient temp was 84. It stayed between 190-194*

On the way home, it stayed between 190-194 the entire way. Figured I'd turn on the AC full blast and she stayed at 199.4. It didn't go over that, which is impressive. The old unit would typically stay at 199 without AC on and climb quickly to 205...207...212 once the AC was turned on.

Now, we've had a lot hotter temps the previous week or two (90+) with some hot sun. This morning on my 18 minute drive to work, it barely hit 194.

I'll be sure to update as time progresses or if something fails. Eventually, I will be doing the cooling system refresh. I have a black stone oil analysis kit coming soon.

This is the only thing I haven't replaced on my cooling system.

Is yours a stock blue hub or has the fluid been swapped? Currently I run 188 without A/C and 192ish with. Will see if that keeps up with warmer weather.

I didn't change the fluid out... I figured I'd see how it did since it's easy enough to replace. Those temps are pretty cool regardless! I wonder if my lights make up the extra 5-6 degrees over yours?

Either way, parts wear out and I'm sure the fluid helps, but with what-I'd-guess is 18 years on a fan clutch, it was due for a replacement either way. The Aisin part is about $80 vs well over 100 for the OEM part. According to Onur, same part - different box.

You guys have A/C?!?! Luxurious!!!

AC and 4 matching tires ! ( a bit of a low blow, I know )

Hey! I'll have you know I almost always have 4 matching tires!....I just rarely have all 4 of them on the ground at the same time...

Thought I would post up here that I found a long lost member. Duane, techtafab, who I bought ol' blue from is the big welder on campus down at Harrison welding in Olathe. He TIG welded up my AC lines for Boost and FOO.

He did excellent work -- looks like a piece of art without any grinding....

So if anyone needs welding work done that needs to be done right, they should contact him.

Rock lights....

First... I want to give a big thanks to Mike @FZJ80 in KC for helping me ship a big bulky item from California the other day. It should be here early next week in prep for SMORR.

In prep for this big bulky item, I took off the trailer hitch and of course, both DS bolts gave me an issue and broke. The one that DID come out without a hitch will be lopped off (just my luck).

Does anybody have any tips on where to start with this one? My plan was to clean it up with a wire brush, hit it with PB twice a day, and then drill it out with a lefty drill bit, hoping that it'll grab. Worst case, a nut can likely be welded onto either and it'll come out.

Edit: I think I'll first try a double nut method on them to see if that'll work. Then vice grips - last case drilling.

Thoughts?

Forego the PB blaster, it sucks. Go get a bottle of acetone, and a quart of ATF. Mix them 50/50 in a spray bottle then spray it on there. Its so much better then anything else that its almost comical.

I was reading that the other day here on Mud. I'll give that a shot - thanks for bringing it back to my attention. I didn't realize that PB was only a hair better than WD-40, per the test. Here are some stats from that thread:

No Oil used ........................516 foot pounds
WD-40 ..................... ........238 foot pounds
PB Blaster .........................214 foot pounds
Liquid Wrench ......................127 foot pounds
Kano Kroil .........................106 foot pounds
ATF/Acetone mix..................... 53 foot pounds

I read that the Acetone can evaporate... I guess it may be wise to just mix about how much I m

I made a few stops to pick up some Acetone and ATF. Worked like a charm on the first broken bolt. I double nutted it and got it off in no time flat.

The other one is a little trickier. There's not nearly enough thread on there to put a nut on there, nor is there ANY thread on there. I'm not sure if that's due to the heat, due to rust, or what. My vice grips don't have the gripping power to get it out so I'll try drilling it once I charge my battery.

Any other thoughts before I dive in? It may be tomorrow before I tackle that one - we'll see how ambitious I get.

A battery powered drill generally only causes frustration when your drilling out a big bolt like that. You really need something with a cord on it. Have had to use my 1/2 chuck Milwaukee magnum a few times for suspension bolts and even that was miserable.

Ahhhh that's great! haha I'll see if I can bum a corded drill for this one. I've already taken a metal file to get it smooth. I'll have to keep hitting it with the 50/50 mix and see if maybe I'll get lucky. Fingers crossed.

Got the bumper off. All of the 8mm bolts broke off when touching them and even one or two of the 12s on the bumper brackets broke off.

Here are a few pictures of the new clearance. Kind of nice being able to see all that new clearance.

Weld a nut to the snapped bolt next time use kroil or other to quench.
