I am guessing we will be meeting at the Ortega off ramp around 7:00 or so. Just a guess but Brent said it was about 2 1/2 hours to Borrego Springs from that point and we are meeting Dan at 10:00. I am good with whatever

7 at Ortega Hwy will give us plenty of time. Boydmick sounds like he's coming as well, but probably can't get Friday morning off, but he's trying.
 
I'll meet you at Christmas tree circle at 10:00 too. I'll probably take the 8 to the 79 to the 78 to the S3 which will probably mean nobody else will be heading the same way...
 
Ortega Highway meet at 7:00 am Friday, March 23.

There's a large parking lot on the right at the intersection of Ortega Highway at Rancho Viejo Road. IIRC there's a stop light there.

Easy in and out from Ortega. Easy place to meet that early on Friday. We dont' want to leave too much later than 7:15ish to be sure we make Christmas Circle by 10:00 am. It should give us time to fuel up in Borrego Springs too.
 
Finally got my schedule for that week. Looks like i didn't get friday off. :mad::censor::mad: Will probably be leaving from work as early as I can sneak out. Missed last years Desert Rendezvous thanks to my air intake hose disintegrating right before the trip. Will try my best to make this one assuming my boss doesn't screw me that weekend. Save a spot for me! :) Don't wanna be left out so I guess I will tow something in too. :cool:
 
Hey guys. There is a chance I might actually make this one for Friday night - teardrop in tow. Would love to hang with the 80s crowd...

First checkpoint coordinates have been posted and are exactly where I thought.

33° 2'10.59"N, 116° 5'51.01"W

This is at the end of Split Mtn road at the RR tracks. From the description on Expo about all the silt and sand we will be heading east to the RR bridge and then maybe south toward Plaster City.

I was out there in January and the silt was deep on some sections of the road. I got a quad stuck in it on one of the days and it was as deep as my knees and as fine as baby powder. This is going to be fun.:D
 
I think you called it Dan. Tacodoc has posted up new first coordinates. It's right on Split Mountain Road very close to Fish Creek Wash.

Figured out the clues. The first picture is not up Sheep Canyon but instead Fish Creek wash and the second picture is near Painted Gorge. Here are the coordinates to the pictures you can paste into Google Earth.

Based on these clues and the first set of coordinates that TacoDoc posted my best guess for the location is here......

We're in the same boat. Living in south San Clemente and meeting at Ortega would add a number of miles and quite a few minutes to the trip. We thinking of taking the 76 or 78, but still haven't made up our minds...

Any of you San Diego guys have any thoughts?

SoCal_80 - let me know as it's always possible to just drive south and meet FJRanger to take the southern route into Borrego Springs. From Laguna, it's about 50/50 taking Ortega out thu Warner Springs down Montezuma Grade vs out the 76 or 78.

I'm shooting for Ortega Hwy at 0700!!

Finger's crossed that the palate from Luke arrives today so I have time to install!:D
 
I am thinking about heading out for the day on Saturday. What are everyone's plans for Saturday, just hang out in camp for the planned activities? What about a trail run of some kind? Looks like the runs are on Sunday, but def can't make that.
 
Yeah! Managed to get Friday off next week. Should be able to make Christmas circle at 10. Hopefully I still have a job when I get back :frown:. Looks like its going to be a great turnout. Very excited to see everyone again.
