Looks like we are starting out around the Salton Sea......or maybe in it.

Here is your first clue as to the true location of this SoCal Desert Event (cut and paste into Google Earth):

33°18'43.30"N
115°48'34.64"W

Maybe we can run the Bradshaw Trail again. Maybe if you want to smoke something this this year I can do homemade street tacos one night?

Yeah, we could do a potluck on friday night for those who want to join in. It sounds like saturday night will be something put on by Overland gourmet.

I can do two racks of ribs on my mini smoker which should be enough for a couple bones each depending on how many we have from the 80's crew. Pulled pork takes way too long but I can do ribs in about 5 hours.

Knowing this crowd there will be a ton of food and drink.:D

Jeez - finally googled those coordinates. I just might be able to find those! Now, what comes next is another story.

OK, I'm in! Well, tenatively I have to get a shift covered on Saturday.

What time Friday are people planning to head out?

They just posted another clue over on expo. Looks like Anza Borrego area. I hope to take Friday off and get out there early. Perhaps we can get group to caravan out there and or meet at the trailhead like last year?

I'm taking off Wed - Fri that week so will be itching to hit the trail. Anytime to meet up is good for me. Unless I am completely off on the location I will be driving down Montezuma grade into Borrego Springs early and then on to the rdvz.

From the clues it does look like AB. The split rock in the most recent clue looks like a spot in Sheep Canyon I have been to but I know it is not up there since the rdvz will be on BLM land.

Is that the little sqeeze area right after you climb through the rock gardens? Wow if we're going up there, camping will be crowded with 70+ sign ups.

I'd like to get Friday off as well to go out.

Figured out the clues. The first picture is not up Sheep Canyon but instead Fish Creek wash and the second picture is near Painted Gorge. Here are the coordinates to the pictures you can paste into Google Earth.

Split rock
33°02'37.64"N 116°16'26"W

Painted Gorge
32°49'03.29"N 115°59'26.04"W

Based on these clues and the first set of coordinates that TacoDoc posted my best guess for the location is here......

33°02'11.82"N 116°02'58.23"W

This is between Split Mtn road and the Superstision Mtns.

 Argh - just got an email to pencil in a tentative trip to Santiago, Chile the week prior to the weekend of this event. If we go, there'll be no way to get back in time to go if we just do a one week trip and when we go, it's usually two weeks and this weekend would be the one down there. :censor::censor::censor:

At least it's tentative and the boss would rather have us go down AFTER our fiscal year end March 31 anyway. Fingers crossed!!!

Update - DAMN! I'm out for this trip. Down there with meetings and workshops Monday thru Friday at least. Means at best the normal red eye back Friday night so won't arrive here in the OC until about 9 am Saturday morning bone tired. :censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor:

Hey Dan. Since it sounds like you know where this will be more or less do u have an idea where we can meet on Friday morning? (assuming u still want to drive in together).

Brent, sorry to hear you won't be able to make this one.

Borrego Springs would probably be the best place to meet up. We could meet at X-Mas circle around 9 or 10 and then head to the first set of coordinates.

Jeez - I wish the UK, Chile and us could make up our minds. This trip may be back off within 8 hours of it being on! As the World Turns.

How does 10:00 work?
I have a 3.5 to 4 hour drive to get out there as per Google maps...And pulling the trailer won't be helping matters any.

10:00 is no problem. I may get there early to go check out some of the sculptures I haven't seen yet.

Don't you wish you were back doing month end close?:D

Oh God NOOOOOOO...most of the time! This is just a minor annoyance trying to coordinate two guys (one a consultant) from the UK and two of us from here. Biggest problem waiting this late is booking one of two hotels we typically stay at in Santiago. Flight is less of an issue. What you will understand Dan is that this is right before our fiscal year end March 31 and most of us, including the Manager of the group in Santiago, don't think it's the best time to be interupting their work. You know what it's like with deparatments clearing the decks of all their invoices and expense reports right before a year end close!

Big assuming my Chile trip is off, this'll work great. From south OC, it's about 2-2 1/2 hours for me. SoCal_80, if you come on down this way, we can cut over Ortega Hwy and out through Temcula to Montezuma grade down to Borrego Springs if you want to. W'll both be pulling trailers, so speed should be similar. :D

That works...I need to pickup a buddy of mine in Lake Forest so if it works out we can just meet at the Ortega offramp. We can sync up as the date gets closer. Hopefully you will be able to make it!

I'll be pulling a trailer and will be coming from the south OC as well. Depending on the meeting time it'd be nice to join the caravan.
