Looking forward to signing up for trails! Just wanted to mention that Twin Cone has been permanently closed unfortunately. I saw it on the sign up sheet and figured I'd share this info from Rising Sun: Twin Cone permanently closed? - Rising Sun Member Forums

Thanks for the heads up. We adjusted the suggestion. We were looking for something that would pair well with Slaughterhouse since it's pretty far away but listed some alternates in its place.

Thanks for putting this together. Decisions decisions

Note Webster wasnt open last week, but two weeks more Sun should help

Signed up for the trail groups!

A quick Q, on the difficult trails listed. I haven't personally run any of those, but have a good amount of trail experience in my past life. My rig has OME lift, sliders, and KO2s. I'm starting to wonder if that's sufficient, or if the difficult trails require armor and lockers?

I'm in a similar boat... OME lift, 33" KO2s, sliders, but no front or rear armor. I do have lockers but haven't seen anywhere on the difficult trails on our short list that would require them. I'm expecting some bumps and bruisers on my rear bumper cover (or whatever is left of it after Moab).

From what I've read and heard from other folks, Slaughterhouse, Birdseye Gulch, Radical Hill, and Red Cone should be just fine with the right lines. Birdseye has a long potato-patch-esque portion but the boulders don't seem too large. Halfmoon Gulch looks mostly okay but there are some areas that may be under high water and there are some steep entries and exits going through the creek. Kinda depends on conditions. Wheeler Lake is on the list but is not advised given its current state as per @Canyonero due to brush and erosion.

The best way I can put it to help people when signing up: Difficult in Colorado often means straight up rock-crawling. 200's aren't built for rock crawling. Some of the difficult trails they can do, but some of them are just not worth it. Wheeler Lake, unfortunately, is one of those.

@kevinfoutch and I ran North Twin Cone a couple weeks back and we made it to the top in my SxS, no problem. Unless it's been permanently closed since then I think that info might be outdated. It's a difficult trail, but a 200 with at least 33" tires can do it with careful lines.

Slaughterhouse should not be listed as difficult. It's a moderate trail, not too tough. It's a little narrow in spots, so there is a pinstriping risk, but I think that can mostly be avoided.

Red Cone can be run apparently, without too much fanfare, if you go from the Montezuma side. I've only run it from the HWY 285 side and I took the apparently optional very difficult way up. The route I took I would not recommend to any 200, but there are apparently other ways to run this trail and still enjoy the epic summit.

Hope that helps!

I just signed up staying within the moderate section. It's hard to gauge for me as I have a bit of wheeling experience (not in Colorado) and currently wheel my 80. I've never wheeled the 200 and this is my wife's daily driver so I need to behave a little. ;) Will there be potential flexibility to swap groups (space provided) from what we signed up for now?

Are we nominating/placing ourselves for trail leader in the spreadsheet or are you choosing from the list?

Just curious so I can make sure I have all of the GPX files and TOPO/Sat maps downloaded if I'm leading.

If you want to take the leader spot then just put your name in that slot.

It's kind of hard to decide difficulty/groups. My initial inclination was to sign up for mainly harder stuff...but then I remember I have a wife who also wants to enjoy the sights, etc.

Agreed on Slaughterhouse - definitely not a difficult trail.

Regarding Red Cone - it is a one way trail that you must start from 285, so there is not an option to start in Montezuma. The way you went was definitely the "right" way, and I did it this last weekend in my 200 without issue. There were a couple of slippery spots because it was raining, but I think a good driver with 33s and skids/sliders won't have any issue doing the trail. Considering the wide range of experience that will be present, I'd say Red Cone is on the more difficult end of the spectrum, but it's nothing to be scared of if the driver is confident and comfortable with their rig.

If Webster is open, you can take that from I70 through Montezuma to the trail head. You would want to take Montezuma back to I-70 to Breck and that is the way to Radical Hill if you want to go that Route. I was thinking about that trail, but I am going to do it mid August with my Daughter

@mcgaskins Have you run wheeler lake? Spring creek? Red elephant hill or bill Moore lake? If so I'd like to know your opinion on their difficulty. I think Bill Moore lake is a good 200 series trail, and not too difficult (although it has gotten extremely washed out.)

Also did you say North twin Cone is closed? If that's the trail that I'm thinking of -starts at the top of Kenosha Pass - it was definitely open just a couple weeks ago. It can be run in a 200 with at least 33" tires and sliders, but there will be scraping for sure.

Bill Moore Lake is easy. It has a beautiful spot at the Lake. It is easy to get lost near the top. It isnt well marked

Spring Creek has two entrances to the trail. One is harder and possible to tip if you go to far to the right, but not difficult. Once you are on the trail there is a spot you have to go up some big boulders but very doable in a 200. Stock 4runners have done it and right after that is the rock garden. Some people get hung up there, but there is a bypass between two narrow trees. Havent taken the 200 through the trees so can't comment on fit. This is harder then Red Cone but you can do this in a 200 with good lines and spots if needed

When you do Red Cone as you are going to the top you can go left or right. Right is much easier. Left can get you off camber. Other than a few rock ledges Red Cone isnt that hard. Coming back Webster is very narrow and I was a bit white knuckle in my 100. a 200 could do that but maybe a spot would be helpful. We saw a Jeep rolled there last year as he went to far away from the ledge. It isnt difficult, just the narrow spot

Added a bunch of GPX files listed on the spreadsheet. Wasn't able to find every trail.

Archive.zip

Also, I have a "pro" account with AllTrails so if you see anything on there you want, let me know.

Thanks for the GPS files. Can I post these on the LCDC site along with the existing routes?

FAQ => see the first question for GPS routes for all the trails on our short list.

I haven't done any terribly difficult wheeling in my 200, though I've thoroughly abused a Wrangler in Hawaii on lava roads, mud, and deep water crossings. My 200 is my wife's DD as well so I'm in the same boat as you. I'd really love to join Kreiten, TonyP, Markuson, etc but I feel hesitant and not sure I'll be able to keep up. Currently debating between "Easy/Moderate" and "Moderate". I'd like some great views and a little challenge and I don't mind scraping the bumpers, but if there's a risk of serious body damage (not just minor pinstriping) even with sliders, 34s, and a mild lift I need to rethink the group I'm with. If there's straight-up rock crawling I'd be better off hitching a ride with @Romer in his 40 :-)

I can't edit Google Docs from work so I'll have to make a choice one evening this week.

I'm not familiar with the trails but I'd say you'd probably be fine with a spotter if you're ok with some bumper scrapes and aren't spooked by slider usage.

You should be fine on the trails in either of those categories based on ratings and other trail reports.
