If I were in Canada I’d seriously consider a V8 even if I was relegated to a single cab. 😁

ill find one eventually....
a 79 will be mine
Fortunately for you, Canada’s import laws aren’t quite as stupid as ours in the U.S. ☹️

A friend sent me this a few days ago: Log into Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/177383885350152/?mibextid=dXMIcH

Pictures aren’t even in Canada, not to mention the terrible respray and doubtful odo reading.

Re: the double cab 2008, you won’t see an OEM, non-RHD-ex-fire truck double cab pre-2013. Nor would you see a 1GR in that model year. Nor would you see a plastic dash.
I’m surprised they got this through to Canada, hopefully it doesn’t become a trend.

I contacted this guy (or whoever runs the social media for the dealership). It's a legit dealership with landcruiser but they are so vague, it's weird. It's only of the reasons i dropped my interest.

They wouldn't give any details and wanted me to come take a look in person. Which is hard given I am across the country. But they do have couple of single cab vdj79 in addition to the tan double cab but they have priced it astronomicaly high. They want 80k and 85k for the single cabs.

I am just glad I got my own vdj79 coming soon from UAE but I am going to Ontario next month and will take a look at the LC in person and report back if anyone is interested in those.

Yes they were very vague and hard to deal with, i dont think these are the year they say they are, and they have a 300 series as well that they say has a 'body kit' on it to make it look like a newer model year..... BS i dont think they are legal to sell, they must have doctored the identification tags

Having just dealt with my second (legal) import into Canada, there is absolutely no way that I would buy one of those rigs to drive it on the street.
There is a high likelihood that something like those rigs could pass through CBSA/import, perhaps with a doctored VIN plate/frame number or due to inattention.
But that's only step 1, obviously one that has (somehow) been taken care of by the selling dealer.
Afterwards you need the out of province exam, which perhaps could be mitigated with a "friendly" inspector.
Then, there's the last step, insurance. In my experience, many insurers are wary to register non-Canadian vehicles, and will require plenty of documentation to actually insure it. Even if you get past this final step, if any of the previous steps have been in some way "compromised" you could be in for a nasty, expensive surprise.
The more important question is - why?! There are plenty of 15+-year-old 79's that are legal to import and good examples to work with. Only the double cab is non-importable into Canada right now, but even then we've seen fantastic fire engine examples (true, in RHD), being imported (legally) into Canada and enjoyed where they should be - off road and on the trails.

Did you get a VDJ into Canada? Came across this dealer and these are there recent inventory apparently…. Any one ever figure out what is exactly going on? All are VDJ. All are newer than 2008… but claiming to be 2008…

this double cab makes me feel things......😍

These are 2007-2008 Trucks which have been converted to LHD using a newer dash / interior.
Early VDJ‘s are available in the UAE, they have been imported from AUS. Someone changed it from RHD to LHD.
Check out the whipers and RPM on the last post.

Frame is 2007-2008 but did they change the VIN Tag on the firewall?

Agree , the wipers are a dead giveaway.

I’d stay far away from this place

We all know the sheer amount of cost, effort and time/labor involved in something like body swaps, LHD conversion, etc... so that MIGHT justify the end cost of the vehicles the are selling. However, FULL disclosure is the way to go if this is the case, and from the above comments, they do not seem forthright with the details.

And even if all the above were true... who is doing the work? What experience do they have with these? Warranty? Did they cut corners and rush these jobs through to maximize profits? At the very least, a VERY detailed review of the facility, their processes, suppliers for conversion parts, etc is warranted before even inspecting one of the vehicles.

IMHO...

Fully agree.

When I hear stories of no details, vagueries and bad communication it’s a huge red flag.

These rigs seem like shady flips to unsuspecting new owners. We aren’t their demographic.

this ones got the right wipers 😁

Interesting, I love the 79 series body with utility box as enclosed. 3180 wheelbase I believe.
If anyone manages to get one into Canada please post up ! or if there are parts to do a conversion if not I'll stretch my 70 series !

In regards to these cab swapped VDJ's out of Ontario. I had a friend fly out and spend some time poking around them. He was absolutely disgusted with what he saw. It is obvious that the VIN shows the chassis were originally destined for the AUS market, but when you look up the VIN that is still attached to the body (a sticker on one of the units) it is a 2017 marketed for the GCC. The motor ran well and healthy when he started them up...but that's where it all ends.
Wiring to accommodate the cab swap was horrendous- obvious splices and even exposed wires running along the frame rail. Interior features do not work - power windows or even the diff lock switches. My friend also found yellow sand in the frame rails, they didn't even bother to clean anything up. These are not turn key trucks by any means. To sum it up- lip stick on a pig.
