Owner turned off vehicle immediately after huge “explosion sound.”

Head toast.

Pistons toast.

Conrods perfectly fine.

Cylinder walls perfectly fine.

Cams perfectly fine.

That said: OEM parts to rebuild using current engine: $5500 MSRP.

We don’t do used engines. We told customer either you find us a used engine with no warranty or we build using our expertise to understand what the call is and use OEM parts and we warranty everything: parts and labor.

These vehicles are sentimental to humans. Akin to having a heart attack and wondering if the cardiologist is going to use titanium stents or cheap steel ones. I’d like to think that someone in cardiac arrest is going to opt for the good ones.

We shall see with this specimen.

Yikes, that's brutal.

*Edit, missed the part about vvti in the thread title, assume this was from another model that got vvti in 2005.

major screwup
maybe I'm extra cautious but I like to spin the engine manually several rotations to be certain there is no issues
