Ok makes sense.

Thinking about just replacing the coil for now. I know a lot of these 2f parts interchange with forklifts.

Here is a coil for $23.

90919-02015 Toyota Coil Forklift Part

Do you know if they have an internal resistor?

I don't have any hands on experience, but my guess is ease of access. Especially if the trollhole unit is a modified OE unit. The Chevy hei is an electric ignition out of the box, no mods. Plus you can walk in about any parts house and pick up a replacement.

And if you don't have a direction nailed down, before you drop big $$ on a setup, the Chevy setup would probably get you up and running with minimal investment until you decide to order that AFI system or get your LS picked out :D

Matthew, throwing around the LS idea in the conversation is bad ju ju, as the temptation is already there, LOL

Yeah Matt don't think I havent thought about that! LOL

At one point I was knocking around the LS motor, Aussie tray back style idea, currently on a 12HT/H55 kick!

What is it now? 2F/H42

If it runs good, I'd just get the ignition sorted and drive it til you figure out what your after.

I went with a large cap dizzy from a late model fj60. I like the waterproof dizzy from the factory. Mine has run lots better since switching it. You will also need the matching side cover for the larger dizzy if you decide to go that route.

Will do. Ive seen the line I need online but the going rate is around $55 plus shipping ... hoping this company can do better.

If you have not resolved the flex brake line yet, you may want to look at a rear flex line off a Toyota Sequoia. I just checked NAPA for the right rear which has the correct fittings and is 18.5 inches long. If that fits your need, enjoy.

Also, the NAPA local to me has a great staff that will go in the back and check alternate parts for me rather than just reading the computer read out. Maybe yours might be similarly staffed.

Thanks bud!
I didn't think of that ... the shop is making one for me should be ready in the next day or so as they had to order the male end

Picked up the new brake line finally after they seemed to have misplaced my order ticket

Anyway all in all it came in at $25.74 for a 23" brake line

Got the truck up and running although I'm not sure exactly what i did!
I noticed that when trying to turn it over some fuel was leaking around the carb. I removed the air filter assembly and lightly tapped the carb with a hammer and heard a "click". Sprayed some carb cleaner in there an it started right up!
Took it for a test drive around the neighborhood and everything is back to normal.

Could the float have been stuck?

I don't think this is the last I've seen of this problem and I'm hesitant to take it on any kind of a long drive

Any ideas?

Any ideas?[/QUOTE idle shut off solenoid. It should make an audible click when you turn the ignition on and off.

It may have been the idle shut off solenoid. It should make an audible click when you turn the ignition on or off. If it is not working or stuck the truck won't run or will run awful of does start.

Thanks Monty that's makes a lot of sense. I'll look at that when I get home

Wonder if a stuck neelde valve could also be an issue being that I tapped on the float bowl?

Wow so I can't believe its been well over a year since Ive updated this thread.

So much has happened.
As many of you know @Monty231, @Tennessee80 and I along with another FJ45 owner in Alabama set off for the Relic Run last year.
That was an absolute blast. If you havent checked out that adventure, here it is:

Not wanting to trailer our junk, we spent weeks getting the trucks ready for the longest road trip they had done (1000 miles round trip in total), and I think we carried enough spare parts to build a complete truck.
Of course being Toyota, they ticked along just fine and we made it there and back, and wheeled with no problems.

I blew a fuse to the rear tail lights about 40 miles from our destination, and did a tire in on the trail. Yes 35's are in my future -- stay tuned!
Joel had a little trailer electrical gremlin but all in all the rigs did pretty good.

So before I left, I got with my good buddy Kevin and we did a compression test on the 45. I know 2F's aren't race car engines, but she felt sluggish. Well, all was ok except cylinder #1 which was showing 90psi.
Ran a little Marvel Mystery oil in it on the trip, along with some Engine Restore and nothing changed.
After doing a leak down test I determined I had a bad exhaust valve.

Now as many of you know I have diesel fever! After owning a 1HDFT in my old 80, i'd really like to either put a 1HDT or 12HT in. However, prices are ridiculous and they rarely show up in the classifieds.
So with this in mind I've debated about what to do for months.

So I get a call from Kevin telling me he sold his old 2F and has a set of headers off it he would trade for my manifold. I guess that was the nudge I needed to do a top end rebuild and refresh with the thinking i'll do the "minimum" to get me back on the road until my beloved diesel shows up somewhere. Famous last words

Don't go anywhere this is about to get deep ...

I send the head off to Knights Machine Shop in Madison. Great guys, very helpful if anyone is looking for engine work.

A few days later I'm swinging by with some parts and the news is not good.
2 cracks at cylinder #4. One in the seat, the other in the block 😕

Debating where to go from here, I put out a wanted thread here on mud looking for the same casting numbered head and low and behold a guy from Alabama contacts me saying he has one. Cant attest to its condition, but says in came out of a running and driving vehicle when a guy opted to to a Chevy v8 swap.
He's looking for $100. Figured it was worth the gamble.

Take 2 ... send it off to Knights, and .... more bad news. 2 cracks this time, head is in worse shape than the 1st one :bang:

So now what?

Debating at this point if I want to continue down this road.
We discover the block has also been over bored at some point, and given the vehicles past, I'm questioning whether or not the block isn't a basket case also.

The saga continues ...

Keep it up dude! That’s some dedication right there, and the old iron will pay you back in dividends once you get her back up and cruising!

@ukaviator i have a complete 2F in the barn that you are welcome to have a look at. If you are interested, come get it and send it out to be checked. If it's usable for your purpose, we can work out a deal, if not, I'll make a coffee table out of it. I can snap a few pics later if you want. I know nothing about it, it came with the pile I brought home from MS.

Only pic I have handy.

I waa told it was a good motor when he got it, but has been sitting for a few years. Just let me know.

Thanks for the offer man, i have another 2F that I'm currently working on. Just got too late last night to update the thread further ;)

I do however need an oil filter bracket that has the provisions for the sender and a lower thermostat housing if you those you would be willing to part with?

Cool, I will see what i have laying around.

@jxnx I may someday want that 2F if my ‘74 F.5 gives up the ghost, so if you make a coffee table out of it, let me know beforehand!
