"a middle tone “sage green”. Almost a dusty light olive"
at first i thought it would be too light but i set the doors behind a black piece and damn it looks nice.

i just noticed the pics seem ... blotchy. the seats and doors look WAY better in real life.

It is very close to the 6H9 Grayish Olive that I am doing mine in. Maybe a shade or two lighter. Looks very good Wayne:clap:

now that the elocker has arrived it is time to reassemble the front diff:
some of the parts...

Hello Wayne,

Your project is coming along well.

Are those Toyota lockers? Is it necessary to modify the axle or is it a bolt-on, ready-to-use installation?

On the other hand, the seats are just great.

yes, those are the "now obsolete" factory elec lockers (but we scored a source for at least 50 units, BINGO)
a bit of grinding, proper studs and a long spline axle inner shaft and you are good to play.

Hello Wayne,

I was reading (again) this thread, just where you wrote about the discontinued lockers. Lucky you.

Dumb question: are these lockers of yours intended for use in 70 Series Land Cruisers?

My Cruiser is wired for e-lockers; in theory a front/rear axle set with lockers, some mounting/cabling and you are all set. I planned to do this one year and a half from now... If the parts are discontinued, there goes the plan.

I read about the fiber glass body. I have seen interesting work done with it, and this project adds to the list. Way to go Wayne!

these fit 40,45,60,70,75,80,81 (rear only after 1990)

thank you for the compliment!

the elocker installed

when installing the king pin bearings i use a proper sized socket on an extension. this way there is no damage to the bearing and you can center the extension through the hole above and have equal, straight pressure as the bearing is seated.

don't forget the dust seal BEFORE you install the knuckle housing.

everything was powder coated that could be safely done. all the holes are thread chased to make sure there is no debris inside the threads.

i always gather the shims for each cap and attach a designation to them for reassembly of the knuckle. in 30 years i have yet to have any problems if i pay attention on reassembly.

the one knuckle ready for test fitting of the Longfield axles.

i had to relocate the radiator overflow and whindsheild washer bottle to the other side. with the second battery on this side once again it became a 1/2" clearence item.
the fit looks factory.
once all the final small pieces are fitted then off to the powdercoaters again.

Just read through the entire build...Wow. Going to be one sweet rig when finished. Can't wait to see the scoop on the hood. The color looks to be great as well.

Do you bother measuring bearing preload when you re-assemble kingpin bearings or do you just find you can put the same shims in the same bearings? I didn't bother on mine, but I'm just curious if you have found it worthwhile to check? Looks purdy btw.

as i mentioned, for 30 years i have never had an issue. if you are using the proper bearings then nothing changes in clearences.
some guys MIGHT run into an issue if they use a different designation bearing. the best way is (if the old bearing isn't too buggered) measure the old bearing and race combo and compare with new.
these old ones were in decent shape and the clearences were bang on.

when you turn the knuckle housings by hand you get a very good idea if the new bearings are too loose or too tight. (especially if you have done quite a few units)

thanks for the compliments guys.

quick update:
Longfield sent the wrong kit so front end is still apart waiting for proper inners
Body torn down and off to the painters
Hood is down at Gozzards having the scoop installed then off to the paint shop

working on a couple quick projects then back to the wiring.

Wow Nice Truck

Hey,Wayne

I have been watching the thread. That truck is bad ass.
I have to get up and see that thing before it gets shipped out. And check out the other stuff.
Still have not been able to get the 42 started. Must have air leak
in the system, or as the wife said maybe it's out out gas, very well could be.

Would like to make it up one of these weekends. Let me know when would be a good time for you.

Dave

well some of the painted parts are coming back slowly... i will post up when it is almost back together. maybe we could do a upper land cruiser barby here once it is done and we all can get a good look at it.

i am itching to see it finished. i am sure the owner is too.

I think a BBQ show and tell would be a great idea!

OR... you could wheel it at the WSSR for its maiden run.....

Then again maybe the BBQ is a better option.

j.
