Hey Guys,

I'm having an issue with my throttle position sensor, if I have it connected, the engine wont rev past about 2200rpm, whereas if I pull the plug, it is happy to rev as far as i push it.
I've checked wiring, done continuity tests on the wires ect.
I'm also getting engine fault codes for Throttle Pos Sensor, Water Temp sensor and MAF Sensor. They all share a common wire, however continuity tests show the wire is okay.
Any ideas?

continuity only means that there is a connection between the two points. It doesn't mean that the wire is still good. As a stranded wire frays it's ability to pass current drops. You could fray all the strands except 1 and still have continuity but the wire wouldn't be any good.

What year?
If OBII compliant get a bluetooth enabled reader, I use Blue Driver and the app is free.
Reader allows you to see what is working and what is not.
You can verify TPS and adjust to specs with engine off and key on and/or if a signal is available from various sensors.
Simple fix is to remove MAF and clean with suitable cleaner or like I did with Brake Clean, dry with compressed air and replace.
Good luck

TPS and MAF are two different sensors. This thread is about the TPS.

I agree with landtank; hard to believe it's not a ground problem. Have you tried pulling the TPS connector and measuring the voltage between pin #1 and ground with the engine running? Pin #1 is connected to ground, so the voltage should be 0v. Anything else would indicate frayed wire or high resistance connection somewhere in the circuit. You want to do this with the engine running so that there is current flowing in the circuit, which was landtank's point in post #2.

TPS and MAF can bugger you up.
My TPS was gone(undetectable to my OBII reader) till 190 degrees, switched in a new TPS, same problem.
Cleaned MAF and ECT sensor one of the two was the problem.
Cleaning the MAF is easy, why not try it before ripping into other inferred issues.
I would agree to your wiring problem seeing that there are a few codes but after a MAF cleaning.
Do the easy and simple things first.

Thanks guys, The MAF is fine, I've cleaned it and replaced the connector (outside of the connector has been broken since i bought the car 18 months ago). I havent had a chance to do tests with the engine running yet but will do this shortly.
The connector on the Coolant Temp Sensor seems to not push on fully, I'm thinking maybe a high resistance joint causing unexpected voltages at the TPS making it think the throttle is fully open at 2200rpm???
I will check with the engine running and see how it goes.

with that group of sensor codes it's hard to believe it's not a supply problem. Good luck with finding it.
Yeah I it hardly makes sense, I've just replaced my multimeter so will do all the tests again, hopefully I just missed something when testing last time. Also testing with the engine running should help!

Its an early '95. no OBD2.
