The ride is great. I like driving the 80 over my 200.
I have the King 2.5s on my 200 as well and I'm pretty happy with the ride. I'll probably add more rebound damping when they go in for rebuild or just go with 3.0s.

A little backstory on this Cruiser: A guy that lives behind me daily drove this 80 for a while before getting a new 200. This one sat for a few months before I ran into him and asked what he was going to do with it. He said he needed to get rid of it or take it to his farm. I told him I might be interested in it as a project for my older son and I to work on and let him drive it when he turns 16 (he's currently 10). It's a pretty standard US Spec FZJ 80. No lockers, 6M1 with oak leather interior, gold emblems (those may change to silver), luckily no woodgrain, with an ARB front bumper, some kind of small lift, and a pretty straight body. I bought it for $8,000 and quickly amassed a $15,000 pile of parts and didn't make much time to work on it. I decided I needed to find someone else to fix it up before the remaining parts become NLA. I liked Ian's work from following your/jomelo's HDJ80 thread, so I started talking to Ian last May about this build. I shipped the Cruiser up to him in October and Ian has described everything since then pretty well in this thread.

With Ian's work, this may be too nice to let a 16 year old drive. It's looking more like he'll get my '17 200 at that time. My wife thinks she's going to DD this when it comes home, but I'm planning to do the same. I'm on 2 LX600 waitlists and I have a Rivian R1S preordered for her. I'm hoping 1 of those 3 come through before Ian is done so I don't have to fight her for the 80.

I tried to edit the build thread with build tags, don’t see the option.

Never used tags on mud so 🤷🏼‍♂️

Cheers
@jomelo -- How did you get that gray BUILDS button-tag on your thread?
P.S. -- I meant driving on top of it.

These are the stages in a build where there is not a lot to show. Lets do a Friday update anyways! 🤗

Just about have the entire body blocked out with 220g. Any black you see in these pics is guide coat.

Most of the filler which still isn’t much is on the roof.

Body is all blocked out now with 220g. Just need some spot priming and the body can be blocked with 400/600g before paint.

Cheers

Random photo bomb! 🤷🏼‍♂️

Allright, I'll bite, "Man those are rusty, looks like they flash rusted after sitting overnight. Should have painted them and then gone home afterwards. You've done this enough to know better! At lease you can fix it...I've seen your other rust repair jobs"

Wait, no explanation on what the rusty stuff was? The anticipation is killing me!

So we are using POR15. It doesn’t like to adhere to fresh metal. We are also using the POR15 metal prep which has to be washed off with water. This gives us a flash rust for the POR15 to adhere to.

Had to do some spot blasting and lots of clean up (sand removal) but the frame is ready to go now.
