I don’t think they are turning their backs on the 80-series. Cruisers were built for a 25yr service life, we are coming to the end of that. They also stop making parts when people stop buying them. I have seen it happen with 60-series, in 2010/12 you could still get a lot of parts from Toyota for the 60-series, even things like trim. Now, forget it. Not very many car manufacturers out there go beyond say ten years for supplying parts, Toyota and a few others are the exception as are Cruisers.

There also seems to be a lot of bad info as far as what is still available. As well as a lot of people who don’t use OEM parts.

Cheers
Fair enough; I suppose this is where the aftermarket would step in. I know the J80 platform is still used heavily in places like Colombia and Saudi Arabia, etc., and so it seems like parts would continue to be produced in some capacity for quite some time but of course I'm not an expert on these things.

Again, thanks for sharing all the details of your restoration; I didn't mean to derail the thread.

Keep up the good work!!!!

They just don’t work or look good in stock form. So we chopped about 3” off of them and then fitted them to work and look good with the 4x4labs rear bumper.

I'd still love to know the tint you are using :) And the more I see of this, the more I know who I am calling when I'm ready to take the leap! Amazing work!

Did you cut the 3" off the top edge?

I cut most of the flap away on mine, but they still hang down too far for even average off-road use.

Yes off the top to make them shorter.

I just found your build thread - nice work. Do you guys do your own painting too or farm it out?

We don’t have a paint booth, painter across the parking lot from me that we use.

So it is ceramic, 20% on back windows, 35% on driver and passenger front windows, 70% on windshield. We did not remove the original tint which is a coating.
