Phases, Is the truck leaking? The oil pump cover o-ring is prone to leak and I think more oil goes out there than the drops on the garage floor would indicate. Check that if you haven't already.

If I can ever get going on my hg swap, we can work out something on my existing head, assuming it's not cracked or badly warped. I got a head off another ONSC member and had it refreshed.

No the truck is dry. I cleaned up all the oil leaks last year in a massive oil hunt. Page 4 or 5 of this thread. It's oil leaking by the valves best I can tell. The rate of consumption goes up with highway miles and the exhaust is white/grey on startup. Not a big deal just something I have to stay on top of.

We passed 173,000 miles this week and Kurt and his team @cruiseroutfit delivered Christmas in March:
I also picked up some pieces from the local dealership. The parts guy has been super great there with parts in the past for all my vehicles.

# 12204-35040 PCV Valve $6.21
# 90480-18001 PCV Grommet $5.12
# 12261-66021 PCV Hose, Ventilation $15.06
# 90910-02111 Head Bolts (14) $15 each
# 90201-12222 Head Bolt Washer (14) $1.30

He gave me a good cut off the list prices. The head bolts themselves list at $21.69. So thats over 90$ off those alone.

Enjoy the parts porn. If you have questions about something specific let me know. I'll post up as I install the various pieces and parts.

Thanks for sharing your journey with us. I love watching people go through the process of learning as I go just like me it's a journey.

I spent a few minutes this weekend replacing the PCV, grommet, and hose. It turned out to be super easy as the grommet was not hard as a rock and came right out. The old valve still clicked when it was shaken so I am sure this had been done recently before I got the truck. I also installed the ARB differential breather kit. Although I will probably never use it for it's intended purpose it is still cool to have and was super easy to install. It is high quality and the instructions were easy to follow. Attached are some pictures of the kit. I ran the rear diff breather line along the driver's side frame rail and loosely ziptied it to the brake lines. The vent point is attached to the firewall utilizing one of the preexisting holes. I'll be tackling the brake lines once turkey season is over. Gobble gobble.

Thanks! It is certainly a journey that follows life's ups and downs. It never goes as quickly as one would hope but a lot of us are balancing family, work, etc and all that that entails. I really enjoy learning from everyone on this forum and love working on the truck. Thanks for reading and more is coming soon!

Hey Chris, i have my head gasket job done. did you want to get my head and refresh it to cut down on your downtime?

This past weekend I installed the front and rear bumper from @4x4labs. The truck is coming together visually and functionally. I still have a few odds and ends to finish up this year. And the brain is already thinking about what needs to happen next. First though will be a trip to evaluate everything. I'll post pictures of the front bumper soon.

I've been doing some HAM research. He is a really informative blog I found. I don't want to lose the link and feel like it would be beneficial to anyone trying to set up their trucks for mobile ops. There are multiple parts but I'll just link the first one here.

I built me out a Ram Mount setup to run an older iPad for navigation duties. I use my phone for Waze and this thing will be used for off-grid navigation duties. Right now I use OnXHunt but I'm investigating other options. Of note, Amazon offers installation for the suction cup mount for $100 :) You can order older refurbished iPads off of Amazon too instead of tracking one down on CL.

Things have been crazy with the whole COVID thing going on. Red has been running solid and hasn't needed a lot of work. I did rebuild the starter about 6 months ago. Nothing to really add to the conversation with that. I also installed a BlueSea fuse block inside the center console in order to add some more USB plugs and for future plans concerning a fridge and my HAM radio. I've also added a 2500x2500 ARB awning to the rack. It has already proven to be worth it's cost. Enjoy. Next up is the HAM radio setup in preparation for trips this Winter.

Here is a link to my Portsmouth Island NC trip. Picture heavy.

I had a couple people come look at Red but no one was willing to pay me what I was asking and my kids convinced me I was the world’s worst father for even thinking about selling her so I’ve decided to keep her. Which is fine by me, I’ll just get the pickup some time down the road.
I’ve been thinking about mods to tackle over the Summer with the intention being a better rig for the annual surf fishing trip. So I went back to my original post that set me down this course and it is pretty clear that the things I need next are that dual battery setup, the fridge, and some solar panels. So well be putting in a call to Cruiser Outfitters soon to spend some cash...

We've been busy lately! First I took care of the transmission filter change and subsequent refill. This was a very straightforward and easy job. I used black RTV when I reassembled the transmission pan. Because of the transmission cooler and the huge quantity of ATF (I used 6 qts just to refill dropping the pan and changing the filter) I imagine utilizing the other technique of draining the entire system into a 5 gallon bucket through the cooler and then dropping the pan would be more efficient. As it is I didn't get an entire fluid flush. I could already tell the truck is shifting smoother and going into overdrive without as much as a lurch.
