I ordered -Brake Caliper – Front 1990 Toyota Truck Pickup 4WD (6 cyl) 3.0L FI 6cyl, and -Brake Rotor – Front 1986 Toyota Truck Land Cruiser 4.2L 2BL 6cyl for my front end and want to confirm I don’t need any other parts.

According to Marlin this should work but I don’t know if I’m missing something else. https://www.marlincrawler.com/brake/caliper/v6-ifs-front-brake-caliper

Do you have the large pattern hubs?

J Mack,

I used 4 runner calipers and had to grind some, so the inside of the wheels wouldn't drag. I have 16" steel wheels from Stockton Wheel. I didn't want to use wheel spacers

J Mack,

I used 4 runner calipers
Thanks Ron,

I tried to order 95 4 Runner calipers from the auto parts store but one of the sides is backordered so I ordered the 1990 Toyota Truck Pickup calipers. I don’t know the difference other than they had different part numbers. In a nut shell I don’t have a clue what I’m doing or exactly what I ordered and figured I better starting asking questions now before I go too far down this path.

The brake lines will need to change. The flexible ones at each end, I believe they need to be longer to allow for more travel. Have not done mine yet but I think I remember thinking that when checking it out. I assume you could just order lines for a newer fj55 or 60 that came with disc.

Looks like factory 1985 60 calipers have one large and one small piston.

89-91 calipers with casting mark s12wb have four 43mm pistons.

92-95 calipers with casting mark s13wb have four 45mm pistons.

Can someone tell me what one I want/need for the front using 15” rims?

Are you planning on running wheel spacers? Not 100% sure what info your wanting. Perhaps the info im going to give you you already know, but as a general rule of thumb make sure your rotors are 2 inches smaller than your rims (in this case, largest would be a 13" rotor) If i were to guess the factory rotors were no bigger than 12"s (for a 92 toyota pickup the rotors were roughly 11.5 inches)

Next issue would be caliper clearance sideways as Scrapdaddy mentioned. Depending on clearance you can either shave the caliper, or just run a wheels spacer (i recommend bolt on which usually start at 1 1/4 wide)

Hopefully that helps some?

Thanks guys, I’m getting ready for round two on axles rebuild and it was mentioned to me that I should look into the V-6 4 Runner or V-6 Mini Truck caliper upgrade but no year was mentioned nor any other parts I might need to make this work.

So I incorrectly assumed all later V-6 calipers were the same and ordered s12wb’s when the driver’s side s13wb got backordered and rereading my original I can see it’s not clear what I’m asking.

My Toyota knowledge is very limited / nonexistent and I’m asking if someone has done this upgrade on a 60 front axle and used 15” rims 3.5 back spacing and if they could offer some assistance.

This is where I’m at now,

1) I have a set of 1986 FJ60 front rotors coming.

2) I have a set of 1990 V-6 Toyota Truck calipers coming (s12wb).

3) I have 15” 3.5” backspacing rims.

4) I have the 1986 FJ60 hubs and backing plates.

5) The brake lines will be aftermarket so length is not important to me at this point.

6) Is the change from the stock 60 caliper to the s12wb worth the effort?

7) Will the sw13wb caliper work with my setup and should I be looking for a set of them?

8) Am I missing any critical parts or process to make this change?

Thanks in advance.

Some argue that it's not of big importance to run T 100 or 4 Runner stuff over stock. You are going to use bigger tires, so maybe the little gained would be better. I don't know if you'll run into problems with clearance and the 15" wheel. I'm not that smart! I'm not sure how much bigger the truck caliper is over the stock 60 caliper, as far as casting size and it rubbing the wheel.

Back spacing should be fine depending on your wheels, as long as your not running steelies. What rims you going to be running?

Thanks,

For now I’m running the Method Double Standard, I looked at buying something else but I need to stop buying parts for a minute and focus on getting the parts I own rolling again.

Not sure if I'm helping here or not. I'm pretty illiterate in this arena, but over in the 60 series forums there's a ton of info on these upgrades. You may have already been down this road too.....

Yes that was what I was looking for, Thank you!!

Werd! That is the ticket, eh?
This is a good thread for me, as I am contemplating what to do with the front end on my 55. I got some 60 knuckles that I would like to put on, and I want to keep the stock 15" steelies on her.
