Photo - April 2014 on the Kokopelli Trail during Cruise Moab. The roo bar has been replaced by a fitted ARB bumper. La Sal Mountains in the background.

For sale is my 1989 (12/1988) BJ-74. I took delivery in March of 2013 and have wheeled it in KY, TN, AL, AR, MO, CO and UT. Nothing crazy but this truck has seen trails and it does very well!

It has the 13BT 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine, automatic transmission, cable lockers, two tops and two sets of rear doors (full and half), a PTO winch and a fitted ARB front bumper. It has 285/75/16 BFG ATs on 80 Series rims with 1" OPOR spacers. A PO added a EFS Suspension (Australian). It has @128,300 miles (206,500km). It is a JDM model I imported from Brisbane, Australia.

I am in the process of cleaning it now and will post additional photos of as I take them.

Rust. The windshield frame is rusty on the bottom where it meets the weatherstripping and there are two small spots on each corner of the cowl.

I am listing it now, with an incomplete ad, as I expect it will take some time to sell.

Asking price is $15,500.00 OBO. I can keep the soft top and half rear doors and reduce the price if that suits the buyer. I will be keeping the rear bumper, sliders, and other small parts for a future build.

Pease call at 859-two five five-2307 or e-mail at peblaw@yahoo dot com with questions or to set up a test drive.

Thank you for your interest!
Peter

I would have lifted the reserve and i think the bidding would have gone to $12k which seems about fair value for the autos out of canada and aus. where the dollar gets you a 25% price drop.

I think there would be a bunch of mudders showing interest if it were priced within $2-3k of ebay prices. I think most mudders would be glad to pay a $2-3k premium ($13-14k ) knowing its come from a mudder who has looked it over and fawned over it.
At a minimum, EBay is fairly cheap advertising that reaches a large number of potential buyers.

Did that "sell" at 11G?

If that's an OEM snorkel airbox I would pay you good money for that if the next buyer doesn't want it!

Good luck with sale. Nice truck! They are super fun.

It is not a Factory Snorkel Model, it is modified stock to suit snorkel.

I am interested in a 70 something, leaning in the direction of HZJ73.
I need an auto (para), so can you give me info on how the 13bt Turbo'd does mated to the HP robbing auto tranny.
Thanks, BirdMan

I'm just north of Tallahassee in Southern Georgia and once owned a BJ74 (13B-T / Auto). The engine produces enough power to move the Cruiser along quite nicely.

I have the 74 with the auto and an HZJ-73 with the 5 speed. The 74 is easier to drive around town as you don't have to shift with your left. Makes the RHD experience so much easier. The power of the 13BT is more than adequate for this.
If you plan to drive long distances often in a 70 Series (yikes!) the HZJ-73 might be better but I have not driven a truck with the 1HZ/auto tranny combo. Charles has owned trucks with both engines, each with auto trannys, maybe he'll chime in here.
Thanks
Peter

I'm chiming in.....
I've driven both the 13B-T and the 1HZ mated to an automatic gearbox and I thought the 13B-T had better overall acceleration. The 1HZ jumps back to the top of the pecking order if you add a turbo but this can be an expensive undertaking.

Hey Peter: The 80 series rims are 16" not 15" as advertised. Unless you swapped the 80 series aluminums out for the stocker 15" rims.

GLWS.
