speedo swap in 15 or less

What can you do with fifteen minutes and some tools? Change your speedometer.

pulled the steering wheel to make life easy 2 min.

unscrewed the instrument bezel ( 5 screws) 1 min.

Disconnected speedo cable, speedo harness plug 2 min.

unscrewed 3 screws holding speedo 1 min.

install new speedo, retaining screws, wiring harness, speedo cable, instrument bezel, and steering wheel 5 min.

check lights, testdrive 5min.

speedo that works $40.00 thanks to mud member cruiserland:D:D

took me longer to get the pics and the post up

I replaced all those green rubbered lights on my instrument backlight with orange ones. Looks way better!

cool,
what did you use??? my mom had a car with orange/red backlighting when i was a kid and it stood out quite a bit at night. does yours do the same? i wonder if anyone has gone to red??

You didn't find it hard to get the speedo cable hooked up? With my fat hands it took forever to get it back in place!

nope. when i first took the instument cluster off i realized the steering wheel had to come off for more room. i have big hands too im 6'9" 235 and have some big ole meats myself but i was able with the aid of my long ass fingers to slip the cable off and back on without much trouble. i thought it was going to be a PITA but it worked out fine.

Especially since I've lengthened my drivetrain; I've found it easier to unscrew it at the tcase, hook it up to the speedo and install the dash, and then screw it back in at the tcase.

now there's a thinking man, use the natural slack in the cable by undoing it where it is accessable instead of wrestling with it in the dash. good call!!!

I found the orange instr, cluster lamps at Kragan Autoparts (Cal) in the lamp section.

cool...thanks

tire carrier

did some welding last night on the tire carrier. got the tire carrier on and drilled to fit the toyota bolt pattern. only used 5 studs because thats what i had laying around. also welded a plate with a stud on it to the main bumper as a positive lock for the swing out. it lifts onto the stud then i will use a cam/lever clamp to hold it down. i ordered a 90 deg. and should have went for a straight one so with some creative engineering i think i can make it work. what i should have done was order the right clamp, but i got determined to make it work. we will see.
