You can kind of see the box in this pic:

I will try and get you a couple of measurements before I go to bed.

Scottryana,
Yes that would be great, end of frame to box, maybe engine side of front cross member to front of box. I want to install before motor and inner fenders go back on. A photo or 2 would be nice also if you had them but cool if not .Thanks! Sweet rig by the way!You have the 55 of dreams!

Ok so I can't really get a good measurement from the engine side, it is pretty tight in there, but from the front of the frame to the center of the top left hole in the pic above, is around 17.5" measured in a straight line. I had to move it forward a little bit because of the shock towers, but it could easily move back 1-1.5" if you used different shock towers.

Ryan

Thanks Ryan!

I agree. Those current shock mounts are awesome! Dig the exhaust clamp on the shock! I'm watching the transformation for sure. Good work.
I used the ford shock towers on my silly piggy. Pleased with the results. The driver side I had to get tricky with due to the scout steering box being right where I need the shock tower to be. But it worked out.
Thanks uglyoinker! You got photos of "Tricky"

Ordered shock towers, paid for 60 steering parts, received all motor mounts.......next hooking up with 3puppies for some parts at the swap meet next weekend!

I would have your 60 box sent off to be rebuilt, they have a tendency to leak. It is pretty cheap insurance. I think West Texas Offroad does it for $140.

Spent some time in the shop tonight with the plasma cutter was going to be cleaning the frame the rest of the way with the grinder tomorrow, but a friend gave up his tickets to see Phish in Telluride soooooooooo a night off tomorrow but i will shoot some photos and try to get them posted.

WTF

Yeah I cant take credit for that. At some point in the past somebody hacked it up for a steering box.I have to give them credit, some of the worst work I have ever seen!

Holy Crap, that is one of the worst HACK jobs I have ever seen! wow

Yeah, I dont feel great about the lack of space around the front spring hanger to make a plate to span cover and weld......it is just ugly all the way around. what would you fabricators do? I made a plate been fitting it and looking at it and I just dont like it!:crybaby:

Damn that is harsh......sure you can borrow it.

Awwwww that's nice! Good thing for you I live too far away. On your frame I would consider grafting in a whole piece of frame from the front of the frame to maybe just behind the shock tower. Seems to me that would be the cleanest repair for such a torn up area like that. That's what I would probably do. I do have a donor pig I could slice of a piece of frame for you.....

update

OK, Been away for awhile contemplating my next move and when I was not really looking I found something pretty interesting.

1996 Chevy LT1 V8 50,000 miles on motor with Advanced Adapter engine to Toyota 4 Speed and Transfer Case from 1977 FJ55 Land Cruiser, Complete Howell Computer and Harness, Fuel Pump, new clutch. Also complete 1977 Toyota FJ55 Land Cruiser for sale as well.

So I bought it............all.

What is sad is now I know how bad I have it with out anyone telling me so.
What I was thinking is I needed a frame any way right?
This is complete from radiator, frame mounts 1.5" lift, new brakes, new shocks, hot rod motor, all it needs is my body!
SOOO, now all I have to do is get to work once it is delivered on Wednesday.

Now when this is all said and done I will have 3 yes that is right 3 parts trucks to part out. 2 good frames, 1 hacked frame, disc axles, drum axles, steel wheels with hub caps, heaters, switches, glass, tail lights, steering columns, everything EXCEPT a good drivers door panel. All of this will be coming up for sale shortly. Even the impulse buy PTO winch , gear box, and drive shaft.
I have not decided on what to do with the nicely built 2f I still have sitting in the crate. All though I did acquire a complete 1992 fj80 that I had considered using the top end and making a 2FE STROKER.So I might be willing to part with all that also.
So keep your eyes peeled for photos, when it shows I will snap a few photos and this next weekend the real work will begin.
